Hoping to pick up my new 2010 Monster 696 tomorrow afternoon weather and work permitting.
Is there anything that I need to get the dealership to do when I take posession of the bike? I've read some posts where some people mentioned something about getting the shocks set for the weight of the rider but wasn't to sure if this applied to my situation. Can this even be done on the 696? Anything else I need to know and ask them?
I already know about the 14T gear, but I wanted to ride with the default and if I need to, I'll get a change with my first service.
Thanks!
Randy.
if you have termis, have them take out the DB killers
How much do you weigh? If it's more than a thin Italian then you should have the suspension adjusted. Factory is for someone who is around 160 pounds.
If you need to do this give them a call and arrange a time slot to deal with it same day. And bring your normal riding gear for set up - it adds weight. That is if you were not planning to ride it off the lot. Oh and be sure to try to get that adjustment done user their set up fee if possible
If you're a real big fella you may actailly need different springs for the best of what your suspension can give - but that's a longer process

FIFY ;D
Apart from the simple suspension adjustment I'd suggest riding it stock for a little while before making any changes.
Have fun, ride safe! [moto]
What a great feeling getting the new ride, enjoy it and ride safe.Pics ASAP [thumbsup]
I'm about 145 lbs so I'm guessing that's going to be good and shouldn't require any changes. Thanks for the confirmation!
And no to the Termie's. I may add that at a later date, but no plans right now. I'm actually quite happy with the way the bike sounds stock. But then I'm coming from a Ninja 250 so of course the ducati is going to sound great compared to my old bike. :)
Thanks guys. Should be a good ride tomorrow
At 145 lbs they will probably say the factory suspension set up is fine.
Enjoy the new ride!
You are gonna love the 696 so much you'd want to sleep in the garage with it! ENJOY AND POST PICS!

FIFY ;D
FIFY indeed... yea rolling towards 220 in gear I tend to forget that there are folks who can be lighter than the factory spring settings.
Enjoy the purchase - Just remeber to take it easy on the new rubber until it's scrubbed in
Alright here's the pictures as promised. Had to sneak out of work a bit early to get to the dealership before they closed at 6. My girlfriend snapped the pictures.
Goodbye little ninja. You served me well these last two years.

Maybe some armored pants too? ;)
She's a beauty!
Congrats on the bike!...White is the fastest by the way.
I know I have not been around for a while, but when did they change the exhaust shields on the 696?
They were changed for this year. I'm guessing because the old ones didn't really do a whole lot.
Enjoy the new bike Schnooble. Best mod is [moto]

Nice looking bike. Lots of mods to do. Reflectors, tailchop, fairing, Frame stickers, mirrors, etc.
Have fun and be safe.

2010
Great purchase congrats, and welcome to the 696 club! remove the reflectors and frame stickers, you'll see...
you might consider these http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=35987.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=35987.0) instead of the Termi for an astronomical price. It looks like they are working on the 696 version so you have some time.
Nice ride and congrats.
Congrats and welcome to the club!
Thank all. Went for my first real ride yesterday and it was awesome. Although it took me a bit to figure out neutral. I'm coming off the ninja 250 which has some sort of noob friendly automatic neutral finder. So when I was trying it on the monster I thought it was the same deal and was applying way too much pressure when trying to find neutral from 1st. Just needs a slight little bit of pressure I found out later.
As for the pants, yup, I have them. I just didn't wear them. Bad I know. :(
And for the modding part, I'm gonna hold off on them for a bit and enjoy the bike and see what bugs me as time goes on. Then I'll see. But for sure, the stickers and side reflector are coming off this weekend. Need to buy some Goo-gone or whatever it's called.
The new underseat exhaust looks not to bad but sounds really cool. However I'm pretty happy with the stock pipes actually. And from reading this board, I think I may be one of the only ones. :)
Thanks again. Off to start up the bike and wake up the neighbours...
Randy.
welcome
BTW red is actually the fastest colour
afterall, that's why Stoner's bike is red!
might want to consider frame sliders, just in case.
Welcome to the Forum. The M696 is terrific. I love my Dark 696!
Be safe!
