After first having my Escort mounted to my clutch master cylinder mount, via a Techmount, I found it to be too flexible and bouncing around too much. I now have it mounted to a hole I drilled in the left side headlight mount. You can’t see the display, but I have speakers in my helmet and installed an eighth inch female jack in the front of my helmet.
I run a wire with an eighth inch phone jack on each end, from the detector to the helmet.
I like this location because the unit is also protected from inclement weather and road debris, behind the fairing.
I’ve been through it all, using the HUD device, where it transmits to a red LED inside your helmet. The problem with that is; there’s no differentiation in signal strength, the red light just blinks the same rate, whether just receiving a faint signal, or getting a full blast from “Instant-On”. It also makes the inside of your helmet light up like a Christmas tree ornament at night!
I also tried an iPod transmitter, transmitting to a radio signal to a helmet mounted micro FM radio, via my helmet speakers, but the signal would drop off over long travels and I actually got a speeding ticket from that.
I was just curious what other people might be doing with radar detectors?

If your radar detector has the capacity to detect lasers, you've compromised that detection by placing the unit behind plastic.   :)

That said, I'm buying one in a few months, but for my Bandit.  The detector will mount to the middle of my handlebars.

The X-50 Escort does detect laser, but that whole premise is a joke!
Laser is such a pinpoint beam, you're had before the detector goes off!
I don't even understand why detector companies even waste the time & money, putting laser in detectors? It's useless. Research it online if you doubt me. The only two tickets I've gotten in the past 5 years were from laser, and that was using the detectors!   

Prolly a marketing thing. If one company has included a laser detection and another hasn't, I'm guessing most people will buy the one with the laser option (not knowing/caring it doesn't do any good for them)

if you're not actually looking at it, why not mount it on the lower triple?
seems your not getting much rear coverage without it being wide on the handlebars though.
the other option is have a custom one built, put the front detector in the headlight shell and the rear detector in the rear tail light...hmmmm

To clarify. Most of the companies that offer laser detection also offer laser shifting which is very helpful. However, as mentioned previously, if it's just the laser detector you're using then it's pretty worthless. Of you're hit with laser, you're getting a ticket. I have yet to see anyone running laser shifter on a bike bu we've done plenty of them on cars.

What is "laser shifter"? I've never heard of this? I'm just happy that laser isn't that widely used yet.
Radar is such a widely dispersed, omnipresent beam, that it doesn't seem to matter where the detector is mounted; it picks it up no matter what. Of course the higher & straighter you have it mounted, the more effective, but I've got an Escort mounted on a 150 cc scooter I have, low, under body work and pointing almost straight down. I regularly exceed the speed limit on this little bike, but haven't gotten a ticket yet, and it picks up radar almost as well as the one mounted to the ceiling of my truck.       

I like the current location, because it's protected from weather, close for wiring to my helmet and easy to get on & off it's Velcro base for security.

Oh man...laser shifter is EXCELLENT if legal where you live.  It's not a jammer but instead shifts the laser signal giving an error code on the copper's gun.  This is where the laser detector comes into play; when you've been hit with the laser and while the laser shifter's doing it's job, you get a chance to slow down and disable the laser shifter and the cop then gets a legal reading.  At least that's the intended use.  Again, these are legal here in Florida but DEFINITELY check before installing these.  Most major radar manufacturers now offer this feature to be integrated with certain models.

I just put it out in the open. They are legal in Illinois but this one is a scrambler as well which isn't legal but as long as you deactivate the scrambling mode ( holding 2 buttons down) before they investigate they cannot fine you.

Mine is a Rocky Mountain (bought on Amazon) its not waterproof thats the only draw back. Rain wont hit it when im moving so I just I just stick it in my jacket when I do park.
