Title: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: Speedbag on March 18, 2010, 01:05:15 PM Just got back from my third ride of the year, early for MN. Another deer tried to take me out, came barreling across a field and up and over the road. Luckily I saw him with plenty of time and got slowed down.
Be careful out there, peeps. This has been a friendly public service announcement. :-\ Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: Spidey on March 18, 2010, 01:14:34 PM (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/4444411854_8cfc7c86da_o.jpg)

Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: WetDuc on March 18, 2010, 01:49:12 PM I eat bambi as often as possible, not just because it tries to kill me everytime I venture out of the city, but because it also tastes so dang good!
Glad you're safe, those deer are super stupid and fast. Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: muskrat on March 18, 2010, 02:29:41 PM you should take up hunting and thin the herd a little [thumbsup]

Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: jsd2 on March 18, 2010, 03:24:40 PM Took my first ride on Tuesday and a mini herd of 3 deer ran out in front of me. Luckily I was on a slow speed side road and I saw with plenty of time to avoid. Usually they don't run out in front of me like that in the middle of the day but there they were.

Post by: Popeye the Sailor on March 18, 2010, 04:28:01 PM Serioulsy though, ive heard of a device that emits a sound that deers run away from... No one cares what someone in NYC thinks about avoiding deer ;D Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: WarrenJ on March 18, 2010, 04:49:17 PM That device that makes the noise that deer run away from is a 300 Winchester. Seriously though, here in Wisconsin, the State Patrol tried them on their vehicles and the number of State Patrol vs Deer incidents actually went up. I think likely from increased panic due to the strange noise. The two deer I encountered last night would have probably stood quietly if I had just kept up a steady pace past them, but heavy monster engine braking caused them to panic and bolt. 'corse sometimes they just do that anyway.
Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: herm on March 18, 2010, 04:55:17 PM so glad to be living back in new england. no longer do i worry about deer, coyotes, rattlesnakes, elk, etc......running in front of me while out for a ride.
moose on the other hand, keeps me from riding after 7pm. Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: hatewinter on March 18, 2010, 05:02:41 PM NW ohio is infested with those damn creatures. I've thought about carrying a handgun and hunting them from on the bike. Do love those deer sticks though.
Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: WetDuc on March 18, 2010, 05:57:16 PM I've seen the deer whistles in action and they are OK, but I have serious doubts that they do any good. Since my family got them, though, nobody has had a deer scare yet. They are super ugly and stupid looking but maybe they could find a place on a duc that has to go through bambi infested terrain daily.

Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: Howie on March 19, 2010, 01:42:27 AM Deer are actually very tall rodents.
Glad you are OK, Speedbag [thumbsup] Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: KnightofNi on March 19, 2010, 03:14:50 AM my fun ride home takes me through a nat'l park. the deer know they are protected and will just stand in the middle of the road and give you the finger.
or, and this is my favorite, they stand on the side of the road munching with cars whizzing past and then suddenly decide they need to be across the road NOW. (kinda like a cat that bolts to another room without warning) The monster and the XR exhaust keep them away, but they ignore the triumph. i think it may be time for a new exhaust. needless to say, when it starts getting dark in fall i avoid that area until mid spring. Title: Re: GODDAMN DEER!!!! Post by: Speedbag on March 19, 2010, 07:53:03 AM It's deer central all the time in my neck of the woods.
Not only that, but we're having a lot of high water in all the local rivers due to early/rapid thaw, which is driving them out of the river bottoms. I guess along a local six-mile stretch of 4-lane, there were six deer strikes in one afternoon this week. |
