Title: Tail Kit questions for 696
Post by: slim_grizzy on March 18, 2010, 09:02:10 PM
So tonight I was a moron and kicked my rear turnsignal off my 696 as I'm getting off my bike.  As with anything that breaks with my bike, that means opportunity to mod.  I was thinking it would be a good time to tail chop since the signals are part of the tail assembly.  I'm down to the rizoma and DP tail kits but I'd like some feedback from people who have them on install and such, maybe some pics too.  Do I need to get new turnsignals to use either?  And how difficult is it to install on your own?  Any other thoughts are welcome too.

The competition werkes kit is excellent.... Well made, easy to install and looks good... and you can use the stock turn signals with it.

gotta disagree everytime someone posts this.
R&G Tidy tail
and now many others are out there and ten times the quality of the CW kit.

+1 on the R&G.  I also broke one of my rear turn signals getting off the bike.  Those things are real chincy.  Went with an R&G  tail & Rizoma Zero-11's.  Makes for a real nice, tight looking rear end.

I have the Ducati Performance Kit; looks good, easy to install. Uses all existing lighting components. Adds LED License Plate light. I added the Tri-Color stripe gel decal.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the CW kit.  I've seen others that I thought looked much better.

Do you happen to have a picture of that?  I saw the tidy tail and the zero-11's separately but I'm not completely seeing it together in my head.

Well, to each their own.... But i am not sure how the CW looks "bad"... There is nothing even showing... All you see with the CW is just the license plate... that's the only thing visible, no other brackets/plastic pieces hanging down.... If you want a little showing as possible the CW is good, if you want more, then others are for you

i could give tons of reasons. but i've done it already in the original thread.
the main point bad point in my opinion is the too thin and very sharp metal.

The rizoma is great quality, very solid, but pricey.  Pretty easy to install too.  The only thing I don't like is that you can see the turn signal wires going into the bike.  Wish I would have know that before.

Here's some pic's of my bike with the R&G tail & Rizoma Zero-11's.  I've managed to route the wiring so that they are not readily visible.

oh yea, I've got the DB killers in, but they've been "modified" some so they provide a little more sound.

If you got the money to burn the Rizoma tail chop is amazing

I installed one on my brother inlaw's bike and it is a top notch unit

I plan to get one too

check their website for pics

Personally,

I am going to remove my DP kit and goto the CW werks kit.  I was a bit disappointed with the DP kit, it is true the CW is the minimalist version which I do like.

I'm extremely happy with my CW kit, nothing looks as clean as moving your plate low

sorry cell phone pics
and, i fabbed up that blinker bracket. the one downside of moving your plate low, no given signal location, took me 10 minutes, and looks fine powdercoated to match

I like my Evotec system....sits the plate out even with the end of the (OEM) pipes and at a slight angle. Looks clean and stock enough that you won't get pulled over and ticketed for it....the ones that tuck the plate in past the pipes get ticketed quite often up here in Canuckland..

ooh yeah that sucks, never had a problem here.

That looks good.  I've got my kit on the way.  I don't think I will feel like fabricating the blinker bracket so I will probably stick with the out of the box look, but I like the way that looks.

+1, what matters is you like it.  If we all listed to the comments on this board, none of us would own a 696.

I'm sure all of the kits mentioned above are awesome, but I'll just throw in that the Evotech is a pretty amazing unit as well.  Very well made and looks the business as well.

+1 for Evotech.  High quality and easy to install. I had a CW but didn't really like it.

can someone take a picture of the inside storage area of the evotech if there is any?

On the 1100 it retains the stock storage I'll take a pic when I get home tonight. I don't know if the 696 is the same.

"stock storage" as in same amount of storage? thanks

DT... i think you're thinking about the space that is actually where the 1100 flapper valve control. i use it for storage space as well on the 696.

so far none of the short tails take out the stock storage bin which sits in front of the tail system

Where does the seat lock end up with the Evotech kit?
