Title: S2R 1000 exhaust options and dyno charts needed (to help a purchase)
Post by: hillbillypolack on May 31, 2008, 06:34:49 PM
I know, I know.  I posted this in the general category before wising up and putting it in Tech.  My bad. . . but please read on.

It's finally time for my 2008 S2R 1000 to be upgraded with a proper exhaust and start breathing without a straw poked into the airbox.

From what I have seen online, the S2R is the most un-supported bike in Ducati's current lineup for exhaust mods.  I see a bit about the Ducati Performance (Termignoni) exhausts, and the corresponding ECU which comes with that kit, but not any dyno readings.  It also sounds as though some of the exhaust modifications attempted are a bit hit or miss.

This is a bit worrisome if I'm getting ready to spend upwards of $1500, and I'm not sure where or how the power and torque will be affected.

The bike is currently stock, and i have a Spark header (cat eliminator), so a set of slip-ons would naturally follow.  An ECU or RapidBike with proper set up would need to follow to work out any bugs, I'm sure.

I'd like to know specific accessories some of you may have used (hopefully with a dyno chart to indicate where and how your mod altered the bike's performance).

As another option, I had been seriously looking at the Akrapovic slip-on pictured below, which would mean I'd still need a RapidBike or ????

If anyone has any dyno charts from the Termignonis (with the DP ECU or with a RapidBike), or have fitted the Akrapovic please share your information.

I'm really looking forward to doing this modification, and I also understand every bike will run slightly different.  But getting some knowledge before pulling out the plastic would be a help.

Thanks in advance.

Here is a chart from an S2R 1000 with that Akrapovic exhaust and a Power Commander 3.  Looks like some very smooth dyno lines.

I'd like to see something equivalent for Termi pipes or a system.

shouldn't this be in A&M?  ;)

I'm assuming the newest 1000DS are closed loop, so PC3 may not be what you need. any  aftermarket ECU/piggyback will help get your bike sorted, no matter what combo of pipes/cans/intake  [thumbsup]

the DP/termi package is not the cheapest way to go, but it is one-stop shopping, often dealer installed, and some find that more convenient

maybe a $2000 kit...full Arrow TI exhaust (or Giannelli, or GPR), RB3 kit (with RBO2, free maps, free soft & support), K&N air filter...let me know if you can find a better offer...

But I think that's what I meant from the topic starter. . . . "maybe" shouldn't be guesswork at this point.  There are PC3s out there, guys running RapidBike boxes, and loads and loads of exhaust configurations.  Termi, Arrows, Akrapovic, Zard, etc.

Bottom line, what are you GETTING from that $2000 exhaust mod?  The products are out there, what does a dyno chart (and seat-of-the pants dyno) show about the improvements over a stock bike?

Everyone here is an educated rider, who likely understands elements of the ECU / FI system.  Though the Monster doesn't seem to be dynoed as often as the Superbikes, it's always reassuring to see how much improvement these mods affect the bike.

We had many RB dyno charts on DML (mine or different customers/tuners)...btw how can I attach files on this forum? "additional options" doesn't have attach files.
You right isn't maybe, just jocking...I sell this package at least once a week...

Sparks exhaust and a DP ECU.
