Title: SPEEDOMETER: ACEWELL - INSTALL
Post by: greenohawk69 on March 20, 2010, 06:09:05 PM
i bought an Acewell speedometer and wanted to know if anyone had any pictures/installation instructions for a '97 M900.  I have the Acewell 2853-AB with the S4 cable:

Someone installed one of these.  They integrated it into a headlight.  I can't remember their name but I am sure someone else can remember.

I had one installed on my bike. I replaced it with a 4000 series though. My bike is an 07 695, so the wiring is going to be a bit different. The most helpful thing I can suggest to you is to run a ground wire straight from the gauge to the negative terminal of your battery. The factory ground supply system is terrible, you won't get a clean enough ground to get the proper readings from the tach and wheel speed sensors. I used a 5mm diameter, flat neodymium magnet epoxied to one of the rear sprocket bolts to trigger the reed sensor for the speedometer input, and I tapped into the horizontal ignition coil trigger wire for the tachometer input. On my bike, the original instrument cluster acted as the flasher relay for the turn signals, so I had to re wire the turn signal switch to control a b+ signal instead of the ground signal, and wire in a digital flasher relay to control the led signals that I installed. The rest of the installation was very straight forward. Make sure that you have a factory wiring diagram handy, and then draw up your own schematic matching up ducati wire info to the acewell wiring harness that was supplied with the gauge. If you have any questions feel free to p.m. me.

Thanks Adam.  I do have Ducati wiring schematic and have used that so to label the wires coming out of the wire harness (painters tape and pen) and did the same to the wires from the speedo.  Guess I'll have to give it the "old college try" and see what happens.

Thanks for the info on the ground to the battery.
