Title: Minor Reconstruct
Post by: Halfast on March 22, 2010, 11:58:34 AM
So I put the bike down around a corner last fall. It's an 02 Monster Dark. No big deal but the handlebar is bent, the grip is torn, broke the plastic on one mirror and I broke a foot peg.  I would like to have is on the road in a month so does anyone know where I can get these OEM parts?  I don't want to go through the dealer of course.  I google'd the hell out of it but I can't find anything.  I checked out cycleworks.com but their credit card information page comes up with red flags so I don't trust the site.  Just the handlebar, black rubber grips, and a left foot peg and I should be good.  The mirror I can probably fix.  I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

I have the handlebar off of my 07 S2R.  Was replaced with clip-ons.  Let me know if you're interested.

I did the same sort of thing, replaced the OEM handlebar with a Rizoma bar, and I later replaced that with Woodcraft clipons.  I also bought Rizoma sportline grips, decided I hated them, and put the stock grips back on, a new throttle control conveniently came with a new pair.  Aftermarket rubber grips are easy to find of course, but I assume OEM grips could be picked up cheaply at a dealership.

If I recall correctly the footpeg is riveted in there, or at least it is not easily gotten out and replaced.  I damaged my right footpeg and had to replace the whole brake lever.  There is a thread on here somewhere showing how someone fashioned their own peg.

The biggest thing is you don't want to order parts that are going to have to come from Italy.

Actually in locating the thread I mentioned it may not actually apply, as in you're issue is the peg your heel rests on, but I'll post it anyway just in case:

Pretty sure the tapered bars off an S2R would not fit a non S*R bike without some work.

If you want OEM parts, might I suggest Commoto - http://store.commoto.com (http://store.commoto.com) - you can use the OEM parts finder, add it to your cart, and get a total - check out with CC or paypal.

If you don't like websites, you can call Commonwealth motorsports, or Ducati Seattle, or maybe don't go for OEM parts.

You can see aftermarket bar options at list of sponsors on the left as well. If you have questions, call 'em. The vendors here are all very knowledgeable.

cycleworks or ca-cycleworks our spnsor? If it's the latter you can trust them

You'll need a 7/8" diameter bar. Tons of folks make them in all sorts of configurations. No need to go oem unless you really want too.

foot peg - comm ducati seattle or ducati Omaha

grips any grip set will work. I like pro-grips brand. But that's just my flavor.

Dante - the pegs are not rivited. They are secured with a pin and clip. The passenger peg and the riders peg are the same. The only diff is that the riders has a spring
added to hold it down and the passengers has a spring and ball detent inserted. The peg body is same same. I swapped a passenger peg to the riders spot on the side of the road after a friend had a minor off.

So if your passenger peg is still in good shape, just swap. Just watch out for that detent set up. When you remove the peg from the rear set it'll want to shoot the hall bearing out

Yes, I was thinking of the peg attached to the brake/shifter levers.

No rivets there either. The brake and shifter levers are a cast piece on stock rear sets.

Wow, thanks for all your help.  I'm getting things figured out a little at a time and your feedback is much appreciated.  Got new race pegs ordered and that doesn't seem to be a big deal at all.  Grips I think I can find easily now and I might have a bar located.  I'm just a little concerned about replacing the bar as I've never done it before and all the controls seem tricky to get back on in the right spots with the drilling and all.  Thanks again!
