Title: Values, and standing for what you believe in
Post by: mitt on March 24, 2010, 04:12:29 PM
THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL DEBATE OR DISCUSSION, it just happens that it came from political fallout...

I see in the news that execs of 2 BIG companies, google and godaddy (ducati connection and dmf connection) are putting their beliefs ahead of more customers and more $, and for that, I salute them  [thumbsup]

It makes me feel good to see execs can't be bought or strong armed.  I hope it goes well for them, and it only makes them stronger even without that lost potential customer base.

Sort of the reason I am currently unemployed. Because I didn't believe in the multiple standards the company i was working for had. Hell, I would have been happy if the policy was to piss on employees...as long as all employees got pissed on.

Google and godaddy are sort of pulling out of china for hosting and searching - follow the link I had in my OP.

I was thinking the very same thing the other day and wondering why Google was not getting any mojo in the big media outlets (aside from covering the decision).  Not even the most enthusiastic flag wavers have come out in support of this, and commentary -what is a fastball right down the middle for people that literally weep for the fate of American ideals- is conspicuous in its absence.

I'll try to walk the line here:  China plays by China rules.  This is fine within the confines of the Chinese borders. But every argument I have ever heard about doing business with them can be distilled down to this: doing business with China is good because they are big and going to get bigger, not that they are good and they are going to get bigger or better.

Good for Google.

Another angle on this - I don't buy it necessarily, but a thoughtful article

I salute them...unfortunately their position on human ethics is more likely viewed as "quaint, retro...but stupid"

And please be confident that a competitor is ramping up now to step in a make a feast out of the losses that result from their integrity

Nationalism worldwide is being trumped by "Global Economics" in the post-Cold War era

I really REALLY have to stop here or risk board censure if I go off on a rant
