Title: Wish we had one of these
Post by: NoisyDante on March 27, 2010, 09:02:42 AM
My parents saw this in Rome yesterday, wish there was on in LA.

Salt Lake City seems to have a little cafe though in the dealership.

Reminds me of something HD would/does have. No thanks. Stick to making bikes ducati.

We had one in Park City, Ut. Stopped by several times, was closed when it was supposed to be open, got in once, nothing special. It had no chance the way it was run.

What a stupid idea! Just feeds the stereotype that ducati riders don't actually ride, they just hang around trendy cafe's drinking lattes.

I don't think it's a stupid idea, and it's a far cry from the HD marketing.  It's a fine dining cafe, not a licensed Starbucks, and I don't think it feeds a misconception about Ducatistas.

Might not work in LA though, too many yuppies here.

I'd go, but that's just because I love anything related to Ducatis.  If they had a Ducati coffee shop, restaurant, or even a Duc water park, I'd go.

That's my attitude.  I don't consider it to be any different than your hometeam's sports bar.

hmmm....never looked at it that way.  With that argument, I cannot talk trash about all the HD guys wearing their brand since i'm guilty of wearing my team colors.

I'd go if I knew the owner or staff, or if the food and drink specials were better than my usual haunt...

actually, no....I'd go if I knew the owner or staff....

wait....maybe just the owner...

um....and I owed him a favor....

er...and he let me use the alley entrance...

and maybe eat back in the kitchen.

I have no good reason at all for it to bug me.   I'd love a place that had no official connection to Ducati but was all about Italian bikes and had bike parking, races on tv, etc.etc.     but this place as it looks would be really really far down my list.

Or, if it was on the water, and they had a Dock.  :D

A lot of Ducatisti Romani and Ducati lovers frequents Ducati Caffe'.  Not your typical coffee shop.

+1  I went up one sunday hoping to catch a MotoGP race, but they were closed. I see these places as an opportunity to find fellow riders who might not be internet peoples.

The idea of something similar in L.A has been discussed...

Something more themed to motorsports and motorycle racing in particular.... ( space big enough to catch a variety of races - TT, MotoGP, SBK etc-

we shall see what happens..

What a stupid idea! Just feeds the stereotype that ducati riders don't actually ride...

I was talking with Michael Lock the Ducati N.A. CEO over a couple of beers a couple of years ago (Oct 07?)
He said, on average, Ducati riders in the U.S. ride just UNDER 2000 miles a year.

He would know -I'm sure they track that stuff.

Sounds like a bunch of folks DON'T ride much...   :-\

Just look at the bikes for sale, and their mileage. That and the fact anything over say, 15K on a bike for sale is considered "a lot" and yeah-the bikes don't get ridden a lot.

I was a statistical outlier until I hurt my neck. 25k in the first year alone=I win at life.

I would tend to disagree on that one...(at least on my end)

My S2R 1k has 19k on her and climbing

996 has 15k ( bought 1.5 yr ago with 8k on the odo)

998 has 13k ( bought less than 1 yr ago with 8.4k on the odo)

and I know several other Duc owners who ride as much if not more than I do....

Maybe its different elsewhere..

SoCal is nothing like the rest of the country.

Luckily, the rest of the country has not figured this out  ;)

wish there was on in LA.

If you want, I'll sell you a bottle of water for $10 and we can say you went to a Ducati cafe.

And from my experience, a lot, maybe not most, but a lot of Ducati owners have one, not to ride, but to say they have one.   And maybe profile around a bit.   For many people, it's an image enhancer, but I think it is just another bike.   One that will come and go.

???  That missed the mark more than Michael Bay did when he made Pearl Harbor.

I didn't say i wanted overpriced water to be a poser

There is a bit of a hole in your logic.

Just 18 months ago 2 of your 3 bikes had well below average mileage on them ... but I commend you for trying to keep the average as high as it is ;)
