Title: New rear brake pads - strange sound
Post by: ducjon on March 28, 2010, 07:56:44 AM
So I had new pads put on, and a few days after, my back brakes seem to have a "whine" it's extremely high pitched, and happens when I engage the brake and for about 5-6 seconds afterward...(to a lesser extent)...

Is this a normal part of break-in for new pads? I though maybe some dust or dirt/rock got in there, but I blew it out with some compressed air, and it still does it..

It's pretty annoying.. and I swear I hear a low-pitch "grumble" coming from them too when I really lay on them..

Thanks guys

Remove the pads, sand them and add some chamfer to the top and bottom, scrub the rotor with a ScotchBrite pad and brake cleaner and reinstall.  Then go out and bed them in.  Or, if you don't mind the noise to much and the brake works fine, live with it.  The noise may get better or worse over time.
