Hi All,
I just bought a Termi carbon exhaust kit (cans, ECU, & filter), and was wondering if this is something that I can install myself or should I have the dealer do it?
I had the Dealer do mine during my first service while I went and had my nails done. ;D
It's a great mod by the way, you will truly enjoy it.
OK, I'll try to find a nail salon near the dealer. [roll]
Do it your self ,dont go to the dealer...

but what about his nails?
i really can't believe that dealers are charging to put the kits on. for the price they are they should install them free. what it take 30 min max and 20 of that is to remove and replace the tankskins and fuelcell.
If you can play legos you can install an exhaust.
The discount my Dealer gave me on the Exhaust was way more than the hour labor they charged for the installation (and my nails looked great afterwards also).

so you're saying they installed it for free.. and made you feel like you got a deal...
30 mins maximum plug and play no sweat.
I bought the kit online, so of course they're gonna charge. Where can I get some how to instructions? Looked online, didn't see anything.
ok there are three parts, three steps to this.
exhausts, air filter and ECU
the air filter and ECU reside under the tank skins. the ecu under the fuel cell
someone recently put up a video showing how to install pigtails for a battery charger. that's how to get to that area
the airfilter is simple, take the old one out put the new one in.
the exhausts are 2 bolts and 2 springs. plus swapping out the exhaust shields.
*make sure you unhook the battery before swapping the ECU

Maybe 45 mins if you're slow like me.
How much do the dealer charge for this anyways? For less than an hour of work, i think its not worth it to let em do it.yes?
Check warranty stuff first. I think dealer installed warranties termi exhaust kit for 2 years and only 90 days (?) if self installed. If its a quick job might pay for peace of mind.
i think it's one year parts. 2 years labor. but dave r can answer for sure.
I would highly recomend having a dealer install your new exhaust. I have mine done couple weeks ago and ever sense then the bike is having all kinds of problems. (1) Bike is running quite rough. (2) Bike backfire, poff between 3,500 and 5,000 RPM. (3) Ingine light keep turning on. I dont know if I'm the only one that have this problem but, have I done it myself I would have to pay the dealer to fix the problem. I am now on my second trip to the dealer for this problem.

better check your ECU yourself and make sure the dealer really replaced it. sounds like maybe it's running lean.. ie your running the stock computer with the new airfilter?
So there's nothing else that has to be done after the install? IE: dyno tuning, configuring and TPS reseting anything like that? Just plug and play? Where is the air filter?

the new siemens ECU resets the TPS by turning the key 3 times i think without turning the starter over.
the air filter is on top of the air box. there are three bolts holding it on. oh, if i remember right they are star head screws, but maybe just hex. just have a star screwdriver set nearby.
you remove the screws and pull the top off with the filter. take the filter off the mount. replace and screw everything back in.
after you've connected everything back ...before you put the skins back on. turn the key. the dash should read 'monster 696 racing'
plenty of people have done it here.
OK, can I ask where the air box is?
ok, maybe we do need to talk about the dealer...
seriously though. can i make a suggestion you do a little research on the forum. read EVERYTHING you can on the 696 from here. most of the thread i've commented on so you can just do a search for 696 or my name.
also it will help if you download the parts manual from ducati
it will give you a better understand of the bike and it's various systems
how long have you been riding? how long have you had this bike?
ok i read all your previous posts.
i suggest you find someone local that's done this mod and have them walk through it with you.
you will learn a ton about your bike and save some money.
you're in SoCal right... i know there are a lot of people on here from that area.

I will check as soon as I get the bike back. The bike is just having all sort of problem. The speedometer is not working properly, It would just say zero for a while then it would put random numbers. The Tech I talk too told me this is the first time he incounter on the monster. I will post more deatails after talk to the dealer.

I really appreciate the advice! It's going to the dealer tomorrow, followed closely by my Sport 1000 for the same treatment. Thanks much again, I'm sure you'll see me again!!
