Having an issue with my bike. It's a 2006 S2R 1000.
Fired up the bike to go riding with some friends. Started up fine. Rode over to a friend's house and parked the bike. Went to leave and the bike wouldn't start. Turn the key, hear a little electrical click, but the dash won't power up. No lights, no sweep of the tach or speedo needles, fuel pump won't kick on, neither lcd window lights up, nothing. Immobilizer light blinks as if nothing is wrong.
Turn the key to park and the head light comes on so the ignition switch seems to work....and juice makes it to the headlight. The battery is new. Checked it anyway and its got plenty of juice. Put it on a charger and it's got a full charge.
Checked fuses....fine.
Checked all connections to the ignition/cluster and they are all good.
Tried the red key. Same thing. Click, then nothing. Immobilizer blinking away.
Tried the code card over-ride and it won't go into the code card mode. If you turn the key, hold the throttle for 8 seconds, it supposed to let you enter your code. Won't do it. Immobilizer blinks steady.
Lost....any suggestions? When the key turns, and the click happens, some times the idiot lights (engine/oil) flash for a second and the needles twitch for split second....like it wants to power up. But it won't.
HELP!
And you did check the main fuse on the other side as well? I assume you did, just throwing it out there.
Classic signs of a weak battery or bad connection. Before doing anything else get the battery load tested or jump the bike with a known good battery. The pilot light and tail light only take about 2 amps. The fuel pump needs around 6 amps and the starter, computer, etc. a whole bunch more. Then make sure your charging system has proper output. A fully charged battery does not mean a good battery.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was thinking it was either a bad connection or a power issue so I'll keep chasing leads down that road. Was nervous my dash kicked the bucket.
Am I correct in assuming since the immobilizer light kept blinking like normal it's not the immobilizer? Doesn't the light stay on if the immobilizer has kicked in? If it's electrical/battery related I can chase it down. My main concern (hope) at this point is that it's not dash/ecu/immobilizer related.
Maybe check battery cables for corrosion, tightness etc.
Battery is only a month old. It was the first thing I checked. Good connections, no corrosion, meter shows a good charge.
Pulled connections leading to the ignition and dash. Checked fuses. Everything good.
Gonna put the battery on the trickle charger and pull/clean all connections to see if anything changes.
Try swapping the 2 small relays, they're next to the battery on the left side.

Will do. I pulled them to check for corrosion or loose connection. But I didn't try swapping them.
Looking over my parts diagram for the bike I notice a 40 amp fuse that's located in the harness. I haven't checked that on yet. Just the ones in the fuse box. Any idea what that one's for? Regulator perhaps?
Got a general question regarding the power/wiring. In what sequence does the current run from the battery to the dash? The dash is getting power....cause the immobilizer blinks. Plus, the engine/oil light will flash for a split second when I turn the key. So power is making it to the dash. Just not enough to power it up. Wondering why it's not getting enough power.
Could it be the voltage regulator?

BINGO!!!!
Thanks so much for that tip. I had pulled them to check them out. Made sure they were clean and fit tight. Hadn't thought to swap them around because I assumed there were not identical.
When I swapped them the dash lit up but the fuel pump did not. I tried them 1 at a time in each position and have isolated the bad relay. Off to the shop to see, fingers crossed, if they have one in stock.
Thanks guys!
Perhaps it's too late, but IIRC, there's a generic relay replacement, I think it's in the 'Alternatives' thread:

Just got back from the shop. They had 2 relays in stock. Bought them both. Installed them and the bike fired right up.
Thank you Speedog.... [bow_down]
I'm going to keep the good original relay under my seat as a spare just in case. But my bike is up and running again! [thumbsup]
