Title: USPS tracking/claims make the beast with two backsing worthless
Post by: TAftonomos on April 02, 2010, 05:00:43 PM
Last few weeks I've sent several packages overseas.  2 out of 4 havn't made it, are 2 weeks behind the "due" date, and the post office is zero help.  Tracking number only says that billing info was recieved.  USPS won't scan pre-paid packages when you wait in line and hand them to the courier.  One of them was picked up by the mail lady....I wonder if it even made it to the post office as the tracking number doesn't bring ANYTHING up.

I'm out about $300 on these things, and USPS won't do shit about it (as they say they have never received the items....as they won't scan them in when I hand them to em').

make the beast with two backs THEM I say.

Thats all.

would it not make sense, instead, to maybe use UPS to go internationally?

just a thought... I know it prolly doesn't help you any, and I'm sorry.

but I've been drinking.

*looks down at sig line*

why would you use USPS for international packages?

You know once they leave that airplane with the red white and blue, its gone. If their government decides to take it and rape it, or their post master decides to take it and rape it, its on you.

UPS and Fedex operate in many locations and they are MUCH better for international packages.

You pay a lot more for a very specific reason though.

Another reason why i wont ship anything international, not even to Canada.

I recently bought a pair of mirrors via a forum member.

I received the box, looked as if it had been run over by a truck several times, (Thankfully the member packaged them well) and a little note from USPS saying "Sorry!" and that was about it.

Tracking number says it's still in transit.

GOGO GOVERNMENT WORKERS.

Price something UPS to send over seas...to say England.  Then price the same item with USPS.

USPS med flat rate box is about 50.  Same thing shipped with UPS is about 200.  Das why....  Although if it never gets there, theres no point.  I'll just go back to not shipping internationally because a company (govt entity) can't do what they say they will do.

Insurance?

And I always use USPS for International. They're cheaper, ship to more places and get through customs faster.

I usually only receive goods from England, and there have been times that they were well past the due date that I was given, but they eventually showed up. Maybe give it some time.

BINGO!  "still in transit"  a load of bullshit if you ask me.  I will NOT use them for anything of value

Dude that blows~!

I have had very good luck with USPS and shipping overseas. May want to buy insurance in the future?  UPS is just way to expensive internationally I would agree.

Some companies have negotiated rates with Fedex, UPS, etc and will let employees send personal packages at those rates (on your own dime).  It's worth checking to see if your employer does this, as the negotiated rates are often cheaper than USPS rates.

My company has been doing this for quite some time, and I never bothered...I didn't realize the rates would be cheaper...  [bang]

My old company got us a roughly 50% discount.

McMasters-Carr get a huge discount. they shipped a box the size of my motorcycle for $30 bucks. it also weighed about 100lbs too.

It just goes to show u how much these shipping companies make!

I ship a box USPS international every day (sometimes 4-5...today- AU, Finland, Thailand)
as others have mentioned....insurance is a good idea.
also Express has much better tracking than priority, and is more likely to be scanned in route than a priority package

labels printed  online are a couple bucks cheaper than at the counter

also- i dont understand why they wouldnt scan them at the counter....they always do for me if i wait in line...
might be another priority vs express thing?

Lady at the USPS counter today told me since the labels are cheaper, they won't scan them in, and hence no tracking (even though they advertise it).  I tried to reason with her the benifits of me not coming down to the post office, standing in line for 30 mins, only to be told no and treated like a bother instead of a customer.  She said "next".  I got the post master's (?) desk number, and will follow up tomorrow.  I'd curse a bunch, but it wouldn't be nice, and will just be censored.  So I'm done...for now.

oops edited my own post above while you were typing.

bad employee.
my local post office employees have been excellent 99% of the time.
there is one guy like you described i use to deal with.
seemed irritated you were giving him packages and making him work.

+1.  I've shipped and received packages to/from Australia to/from the US no problem at all (so far). And received goods from all over the Earth by ordinary Air Mail many times without problems too.  From Oz its possible to ship stuff OS using Australia Post but with "additional" (ie it actually has some) insurance for quite reasonable rates.  Similar must be possible from the USPS too I would've thought?
