Title: Clip On advice
Post by: rac3r on April 03, 2010, 11:41:09 AM
I'm kind of moving towards getting some clip ons for my 620 but need some help to find ones which fit my needs. First of all how extreme is the riding position when mounted below the top clamp with no rise? (I'm about 5'8ish BTW)

I want 'hinged' clip ons so I don't have to remove the top clamp and ones with rise would be a bonus. I found Swatt clip ons which I was going to buy but now they've disappeared???? Are there any others like these at the same price?

An alternative was that I found the Woodcraft ones but it all depends how extreme the position is.

Sorry for the questions and thanks for the help!  [thumbsup]

Swatt has closed down, sorry.
The closest you can come is the new height adjustable Apex'.
 http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/APEXRISER/Bars-Mirrors/APEXRISER.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/APEXRISER/Bars-Mirrors/APEXRISER.html)
They are a one piece clamp though, but I don't think taking off the top triple is very hard....

Clip ons below will give you a very different riding position.
We're talking at least two inches PLUS whatever rise you have on your 620 bars (one inch? Two?)
Try sitting on your bike and place your hands three or four inches down, and one inch back.
Does it feel ok? In the beginning it won't, because it's different, but after a while you might like it. Some do, others don't.

I though they had because the site was gone [laugh]

I'll try out what you said and see how it feels [thumbsup]

I have a brand spankin new set of black apex clipons that I bought for my s2r. Sold the bike though. Should fit your 620 too. They have adjustable bar angle and a two piece clamp so no triple removal necessary. Plus I have the spacers and longer bolts necessary if you have the coffin style fluid reservoirs. PM me if youre interested.

Not 100% sure, but I still think the new riser Apex' are one piece clamps.
Maybe the other/traditional Apex' are two pieces, while the new one is not?

Probably about $20 (+/- $5)

I checked on the Apex site and they are 2 piece [thumbsup]

I'm kind of having second thought now  [roll]

1 because of the price which is OK but after shipping and duty it's too much
2 Clip ons for road riding, which is all I do, might be a bit crap

I've been looking at the Rizoma handlebars which might be better for me

I was posting about the riser clip ons and they ARE one piece.....
http://www.apexmfg.com/riser.htm (http://www.apexmfg.com/riser.htm)

Not important though, if you're not planning on getting them.

The Rizoma bars for the 620 have about a 3" rise in them, which puts them about where your stockers are?
Big plus, for many riders, is that they also have a further sweep back angle - which usually allow a better angle at the wrists. .....and they come in cool colors.

An email I received from Jeff @ Monster parts has the variable height clip-ons as a 1 piece design. So unless they've changed it in the last 2-3 weeks.....

It's ok, you want the variable height ones so I can purchase Sleeperbolds clip ons, haha.  [beer]

ARRRRRRRGGG! I'm so confused, do I want clip ons or bars  ???

After sitting on my bike and thinking about the riding I do I've decided that clip ons would be a real pain. So Ive opted for the Rizoma's!

Thanks for the help all! [thumbsup]

Well I had a set of clip ons on my 695 and I HATED them... I am 6 foot and with the rear sets that were on the bike it was VERY uncomfortable for me but my wife is only 5"5 and she loved them and they seem to fit her well. I swapped out the clip ons for a set of motorcross bars and now I love the way it feels but the wife still prefers the clip ons. I also ride an RC51 with clip ons and I love it. Do you know anybody with your same style bike that you ride with clip ons you could try out to see if you like the riding stance with them on??? Just my 2 cents ;)

Recently added clip ons to my M800Sie, above the triple.  Ended up at exactly the same height and width as the stock bars, but now at the perfect angle for my wrists.  But definitely more effort and expense than the Rizoma's, which will get you to the same result.

which style apex did you buy He Man?

riser ones. they look (but not sure yet) like they are a bit higher than my cycle cats, but they can go as  low as my tomasellis...which means i can get them low for a bit more aggressive on the weekend rides, and raise them for my trip back home, or for city riding/ or lower for track etc.
