Title: Calling Italian Car People (Lancia)
Post by: joshn569 on April 05, 2010, 03:45:35 PM
1981 Lancia Zagato
4 Cyl DOHC
5 spd FWD
Fuel Injected
4 wheel disc brakes
Anybody else have or had one of these? It needs some major TLC but looks like it could be a fun car... someday. Got it running last fall and plan to get it drivable this spring. Dont know much about it or Lancia for that matter.

Sorry I don't know anything about cars, but this was my favorite Lancia when I lived across the pond.
Lancia Delta Integrale.

Thats a Lancia Beta Spider, Zagato is on the car because they were the coachbuilder for Fiat on the car (though pininfarina was the designer of the car) rather than as a model name.

Have fun with it!  [thumbsup]

I had a Beta coupe.  The only part that was reliable was the clock.

There's not much I don't know about that motor.
That's a 2.0l FIAT motor, same motor as the spider, but transversely mounted, and cocked sideways. Has the Lambda fuel injection, I believe. Fairly easy car and motor to work on. Pretty easy to hop up, too.
PM me if you need info on where to get parts, how to, etc.

definitely give him tips on how to clean up that ugly engine bay, I have a feeling that there might be a decent looking engine hiding under all the hoses and wires.  [cheeky]

Most of that shit can go.
First thing, remove the air pump(emissions control bullshit) and plug up the port where it enters the exhaust. That gets rid of half of the hoses right there. Then pull the plenum and intake and get rid of the F.I. Mount a decent set of Weber 40IDF's in its place. That gets rid of almost all the rest of the hoses except for the A/C. (It also bumps the HP up to about 125 from 96).
Enjoy it for a few months, then pull the springs and shocks. install Konis, and cut an inch off all four springs. [evil]
Install a set of 40/80-80/40 cams and upgrade the valve springs. Replace the coil with an MSD 6Al unit with an 8000rpm chip so you don't overrev it and blow it up. This bumps you up to about 150hp.
If you're still not satisfied, you can pull the motor and install 10;1 pistons, but you'll have to use high test gas after that.
Then go out and find a boy racer in a souped Honda, and blow him away. [evil] [evil]
