Title: fuel filter over under - stalling
Post by: SeaLander on April 07, 2010, 11:29:21 AM
My 2001 M750 keeps stalling. I'll open the tank and squeeze the fuel lines and wiggle the filter and it will run fine agian for some time. I think I installed the fuel line wrong, does this look correct? Should the line going down go over the fuel filter or under?

When did it start stalling? Was it right after you changed the filter or happening before that?

I looked at the picture, it will be ok if the hoses aren't kinking or getting squashed on the rear head. Is that a stock filter with the right angle feed to the tap ? It looks stock or close to it.

Watch out for kinked hoses when you put the tank down. You may have to adjust the hose position to avoid them getting kinked with the tank down. Try some angles and look under the tank with it down with a flash light.

Hopefully it's just that.
Sometimes fuel tap and fuel pump failures give similar symptoms. Or crap blocking the tank exit . But don't worry about that yet.

the bike sat in my porch for about 3 winter months while i worked on it (temp between 30 and 50F) with very little gas in the tank. during that time I changed the fuel filter and spark plugs. First time I started it up after that is stalled, couldn't even get out of driveway. I changed the fuel filter back to the old one and things seemed okay. Realizing I bought the filter with the wrong angle end. Since then it starts to sputter when I get on it. Today was the first time it actually stalled completely. I probably have about 100 miles on it since the winter work on it. After I open the tank and wiggle everything it will ride fine for awhile. I ordered an OEM filter online, should be soon and hopefully that is the problem but now that I look at it maybe that fuel line should be on the opposite side of the fuel filter. Thanks for the reply.

Make sure the tank vent is operating properly... sounds like it's not allowing any air in.

Ride it until it stalls, then open the filler, if you hear a slurp of air, the vent system's compromised.

Did you change the routing of the lines?

Or put on a new filter?
