Title: fuel filler rubber trim

fell out (or rather fell in). I do not know what it's original purpose was, but I see no harm in leaving it out unless someone here tells me it is useful for something. I have tried putting it back in, but it is a pain, and I'm not even sure which direction it goes.

It's a splash guard. Mine just did the same thing. My original one is now lurking in my tank until I get the gumption to go fishing again.

As far as which way, the narrow side of the truncated cone goes in - in your photo you've got it 'right side up'

I can not get it to fit back in at all... it must have changed shape.

I don't think it is that big of a deal, so I am not going to worry about it. But I wanted to post it here and ask because I was curious.

Might have shrunk over the years and that's why it won't seat.

Not a critical item - just watch out when filling up for splash back

+1 to the above.  I rode for like 8K miles with one inside the tank and didn't have an issue...

I lost mine the second fill-up some 98,000 km's ago.
