Title: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: BlackKat on April 11, 2010, 12:46:07 PM My monster is my first bike thats road worthy (long story) but I wanted to ask who you guys in the States have had the best experience with for your insurance. I suppose I can lump all my stuff together...Home, car and bike, but I somehow feel a company thats just fair in quality for all types of insurance will most likely fall short when I might really need them...
suggestions? Kev Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: superjohn on April 11, 2010, 12:49:02 PM Insurance is one of those pesky issues that's asked about a lot, but unfortunately there aren't a lot of firm answers since each case is different. The best thing to do is shop around every few years and see if you can get a better deal from a competitor

YMMV Good Luck! [thumbsup] [bacon] Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: BlackKat on April 11, 2010, 01:02:10 PM I was looking for some ins and outs on some of the little quirks. For example, a car racer buddy of mine won't go with company "A" even though they are cheaper because they won't cover any damage done on or at a race track...even to your street car if its in the parking lot...
Will I run into crap like this with motorcycle insurance? I just spent $200.00 on custom paint for my tank and I have lots of mods on the bike...if its stolen and or wrecked will they only make it stock again? (for example) Its ok being older. At 36, my full coverage was $189.00 for 12 months from one source...but is it all about the rate? Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: Vindingo on April 11, 2010, 02:26:35 PM $200 for a year doesn't sound like much at all. Is that with $1000 deductable? What state are you in? Just seems a little low for a new rider.
A lot of companies ask you if you have upgrades and some do cover the upgrades with increase in premiums. I think progressive covered custom paint. Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: BlackKat on April 11, 2010, 04:56:49 PM That was with Progressive. $500.00 deductible and all the maxes on coverage (injury, un insured motorist...etc)
The discounts I got were: homeowner my car is with them I took a "riding course" But I'm un married and a new rider in Ohio. Guess its an ok deal then? This way they know you don't have a death wish ;) :P Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: metallimonster on April 12, 2010, 10:39:43 AM Where at in Ohio?
Try State Farm, Cyrus turned me on them and they have great rates. My progressive rate was about twice as much. Also, local agents so they know who you are. PM me if you're in the Columbus area and I'll give you a number. Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: ScottRNelson on April 12, 2010, 12:02:59 PM I have pretty much everything insured with Allstate and they've taken good care of me. I've been on both sides of the claims, with me at fault and with another Allstate customer at fault and they've been great to work with. When I totalled my Monster back in 2003 they took care of me quickly and even paid 100% on a replacement helmet.
But it makes a difference if you have a good insurance agent or not. I have a good one who will go to bat for me if there are any problems at all, and he is able to adjust things to get the best rates as well. I'm not even slightly tempted to switch to any other insurance company. For reference, I've also dealt with Progressive and AAA for another driver at fault. Progressive was also great to work with, but I can't say that for AAA. Title: Re: NEWBIE (both to motorcyling and Ducati) question... Post by: WetDuc on April 12, 2010, 12:05:36 PM I lumped my moto insurance in with all of my other policies with State Farm. I like the premium payments and deductible and everything, but haven't needed the coverage yet........
Yea. State Farm gets my vote. |
