have ordered one for everyone here as Oz gets a special mention. Great deal on combined shipping [cheeky] [cheeky] [thumbsup] Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: heatherp on April 12, 2010, 03:01:15 AM As a fellow Nodder, I highly resemble that remark!!!!! ;D Can't say that I took any notice of the size of Nickati's ears [laugh] [laugh] Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: suzyj on April 12, 2010, 03:13:42 AM I confess I'm perplexed by nodding etiquette. I generally nod, but there seems to be no reliable way to tell if you'll get a return nod. Sometimes they nod, sometimes they just scowl, very occasionally they do enormous 80km/h wheelies. But there's no way to tell from the situation or the bike what they're going to do.
Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: Mr.S2R on April 12, 2010, 10:58:47 AM yeah +1 with suzyj
sometimes I too I like to be the receiver of a nod, instead of the instigator. It is equivalent to the old country one finger wave off the steering wheel - and no I don't mean the middle finger salute!! Sometimes I nod and get no acknowledgement, but if someone nods at me I will return. My mate does the enormous - as in off in to sunset wheelie - at nods! What degree to you tilt your head to signify a nod, as opposed to your head bobbing in the wind at speed, or ducking that imaginary wood pigeon about to collide with your lid??? [laugh] Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: signora monster on April 12, 2010, 11:00:18 AM yep I spied it over there. have ordered one for everyone here as Oz gets a special mention. The engineering that has gone into that arm would be no match for a Monster. :D Rob Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: mattyvas on April 12, 2010, 12:51:09 PM It would become a pat on the back!
Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: vossy on April 12, 2010, 02:16:49 PM sometimes I'd like a version with a hand flipping the bird for the people in cages that suddenly cut you off or pull out in front of you.
I think frank has waaayyyy too much time on his hands. Also WTF?? with the bib and brace outfit? Yeesh! Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: CairnsDuc on April 13, 2010, 01:08:46 AM I don't Wave or Nod, I have enough trouble trying to ride the Monster and hold a Latte...
Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: suzyj on April 13, 2010, 02:16:12 AM I don't Wave or Nod, I have enough trouble trying to ride the Monster and hold a Latte... Oh, you need the Rizoma billet latte holder. It's available in all sorts of funky anodised colours, and simply bolts on to the top triple. Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: Mr.S2R on April 13, 2010, 03:00:57 AM sometimes I'd like a version with a hand flipping the bird for the people in cages that suddenly cut you off or pull out in front of you. or you could have the 'chuck norris extreme prejudice version' that actually takes the offending mirror off said vehicle that is not using it as you pass them!! [moto] ;DTitle: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: braando on April 13, 2010, 10:44:18 AM Nodding to say hello is it, i just thought that all riders suffered from a stigmatism to the neck caused by excess G forces......... [bang]
Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: bigiain on April 13, 2010, 09:24:11 PM I confess I'm perplexed by nodding etiquette. I generally nod, but there seems to be no reliable way to tell if you'll get a return nod. That's true, and it doesn't matter at all. I nod because I want to. If they nod back, great! If they nod first, great too! If they don't nod, so what? To me, nodding isn't about converting non-nodders into the nodder camp, it's about _me_ being the kind of guy who nods, and occasionally meeting like minded souls - I also nod to truck drivers, posties (riding or walking), scooter riders, people driving cool cars, and even cops, and I wave to little kids. I couldn't care less if those people even notice me nodding, never mind whether they nod back... It _is_ all about _me_ you know! ;D big big Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: Struba on April 22, 2010, 10:09:50 PM Well having lived in more states (of australia) than not it does seem to vary a lot depending on what state your in.
NSW - loads of nodders except harley guys that are too tough QLD - yeah getting there, though there is a lot of bikes VIC - nope lucky to get even a return nod WA - yep, but got nothin else to do as there's 100km between corners SA - Never had a bike there so dunno TAS - Real friendly, you get twice as many nods [cheeky] Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: mostro900 on April 23, 2010, 12:19:53 AM I like to nod, but I also find myself hitting things when I nod off. :P
I also do the wave to kiddies thing - it generally seems to be little boys with the parents and I figure waving to them shows that not all bikers are Comanchero's or 1%ers... [moto] Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: ungeheuer on April 23, 2010, 01:24:51 AM I nod because I want to. If they nod back, great! If they nod first, great too! If they don't nod, so what? I am a two finger waver plus i throw the nod in there too... just to try and be extra friendly... everyone knows everyone out this way... Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: Betty on April 28, 2010, 03:10:18 PM Is it me, or do the Nods come more freely on weekends? Not you. On the very rare occasion I have ridden to work I have been astounded at the lack of acknowledgement from other riders ... even the lone rider you come across on the Old Road - nothing. I think it is just a sign of how jaded commuters are. Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: vossy on April 28, 2010, 04:05:47 PM I blame some of it on todays road rage that's out there.
Saw a classic example of it on the way home from work the other day. "p" plater cager cuts off bike, bike beeps horn, P plater gives the finger to biker, biker pulls up next to P Plater at lights and give her a serve, another biker pulls in behind first biker and starts to wave his arms around at first biker. Lights go green and everybody races off after each other. ( I pulled into get fuel so didn't see the outcome) Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: dragonworld. on April 28, 2010, 05:04:23 PM It could also be an indication of the proliferation of "Non" enthusiast riders that are using motorcycles now!? :(
Riding more for economic reasons than for fun and enjoyment? ??? So the camaraderie toward other riders just aint there, just the general car drivers attitude of a means to an end of getting from point A to B! with little or no acknowledgement that the rest of the world exists [roll] Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: vossy on April 28, 2010, 05:52:47 PM Hey, that's how most of Adelaide drivers drive over here. Numpties!
Title: Re: the Biker Wave, from a right side of the street perspective. Post by: KPhinney on July 31, 2010, 08:22:42 PM Howdy All,
First, I'm new to Oz having been here only a hundred or so days. The first thing I did after I found an apartment with a car park was make sure I had a Ducati to fill the spot. Being from the States I'm used to dropping my clutch hand and giving the Piece Sign wave when passing other riders and I must admit I was quite flustered when I passed my first few bikers here. "What do I do now?" ran thru my head when I realized the left had causal solute wouldn't be seen since the opposite side of the road is now on my right side. Having lived in beach side tourist town filled with bikers in the summer for the last 10 years giving the wave could become a bit of a pain and by summers end it was typically reserved for only fellow Ducati riders. All others might get the nod if I were in a passable good mood. The thread hasn't cleared it up, but at least I know others have gave it some thought. Give it a few years and I'm sure we'll be able to send a predetermined text message to the riders HUD, but for now I guess it's the nod. Title: Re: the Biker Wave Post by: Spider on July 31, 2010, 09:51:56 PM I also do the left hand wave to anyone I pull in front of (not cut off...I don't do that shit). My left hand wave/salutes are famous on the Monash highway, people que up for hours just to past and waved at.....I'm sure they talk about it at work.
