Title: Galfer wave rotors on S4rs...worthwhile upgrade for more than just looks?
Post by: Billyzoom on April 12, 2010, 12:31:22 PM
Came across some ads for Galfer wave rotors for my front end of my S4rs.  Love the look, but they're pretty expensive...  Might still go for it though, especially if there is a 4 pound weight savings as advertised.  That weight drop seems too good to be true, though.  Could it be?

I'm pretty happy with my brakes and I don't necessarily need more power, but if the performance is at least as good with no drawbacks, and there is that significant a weight savings, I might consider it.  Just trying to prioritize possible mods.

I'd appreciate any advice or FHE.  Thanks!

An *old* Brembo disc with the steel carrier weighs 3 lb 11 oz.
So, two of 'em would be 7 lb 6 oz.

Your OEM rotors have aluminum carriers, so they're lighter.

I seriously doubt you'd save anywhere near 4 lbs.

You could save ~4 lbs. with some of these:

I have a wave rotor on the back of my s2r. I fried the rear brake last year at 90mph.........glowing rotor and completely done caliper. Cool stuff!
I have a wave rotor on the back because I got a better deal on it than I could find on a stock rotor. It works great. I replaced my rotor because the the pad backs had transfered metal to the rotor. I melted the pistons in the caliper and the seals were surprisingly enough nowhere to be found.......
So ........my first ride of the years started with a stuck on rear brake and I was in flog mode.........I pushed the pedal down to use the brake and nothing, It was already done.Yes to wave rotor if you need one. No if you don't. If you have tons of money to throw at your bike and dont know what to buy,you can send me some perfume.......Elizabeth Arden Pretty is nice. Its $50.00 a bottle , much cheaper than a rotor..........And I will be so grateful. I am beyond broke as usual! [laugh]

I recommend the braketechs.

Light, Full-floating and they stop your bike like an anchor.

My only regret was going with SS over iron.

Ah, beautiful.  But for that much I could get the triple assembly I'm lusting after.  Priorities, priorities.  I guess fantasizing over this stuff is half the fun.  Reminds me of looking at the Sears christmas catalog as a kid, day after day...
