So as of Tuesday I am an officially a College Graduate.
Finished up duel Bachelor's in Accounting and Corporate Finance (Magna Cum Laude).
I went straight through in 3 years with no breaks while working full-time (12-16 credit hours a semister). Bad part is, I got my raise when I started my job last year and won't be getting a new position until sometime next year. Still I'm making about 30K more than I did three years ago.
I'm pretty excited to be done and am going to try and get in shape and take up disc golf as a new hobby and of course ride a lot more.
Taking a year off and then going to start studying for the CPA exam.
Congrats! [bow_down]
Congrats Jay [thumbsup]
Good luck with the CPA. I hear it is horrendous.
If you want to really get yourself in a mess, sit for the CFA (Certified Financial Analyst). It is a series of tests and say you pass the first one, but don't pass the second one (I think there are 3-4), you have to go back and take test 1 again. That is how it used to be back in 2002 when my financial management professor at Butler was talking about it (of course, he has it). He used to teach basic finance to the Colts Rookies but took a job as the dean of the business school at the College of Evansville.
I'll let you know if we start hiring here in the accounting/finance areas.
Congrats!
It took me twice as long and I only ended up with half of what you did... one major.... and stoked that I passed my last class to even graduate. [thumbsup] [laugh]
Thanks guys,
One thing that saved me time and money is CLEP tests. I would suggest anyone going back to school or that has kids close to going to college to try these. Basically, you get a study book and take a test that you only have to get about 50% on and you get college credit. I got out of 2 whole semisters by CLEPing out of speach, humanities, science and math. Tests only cost $90. Very cost effective. There are a lot of diffent tests to take.
Please refer to this..

Of course, I'm giving you sh*t! ;D
Congrats! [thumbsup]
Hmmm..I wish I could've done this CLEP-thing you speak of to have saved myself a couple years of time and money!

+11TYB.
Military gets CLEP and DANTES for free. I managed to swing 35 credit hours of college courses for no money, and no studying. Just prove that you already know the material.
Congrats on the Graduation, bud. That is a momentous occasion. I hope you enjoy your year off, and make the best of it! [thumbsup] [beer] [beer]
that CLEP thing seems cool as hell.
It cuts out all the bullshit classes you waste 3 hours a week in.
I can't tell you how many worthless, BS classes I took at Butler to fulfill liberal arts obligations.
The worst was this one day a week class on Wed nights.......it was some history of music class to get my fine art credit out of the way.
It was make the beast with two backsign four hours long!!!!! You had to memorize songs and then during test time, the prof would play it and then you'd have to either name the musician or the instrument playing.
Everyone was doing great in the class because he never changed his tests, so everyone had a copy from a friend that took the class before, so you'd know what to memorize.
This guy caught on, switched the test, and everyone pretty much failed.
It was pretty funny as I remember him saying "The results from this test were interesting. All previous tests the average was above 90%. For some reason the average on this test was 63%"
[laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Jay - where is your degree from?
the wife is finishing up her degree and Ohio Dominican. Thanks to Huntington for footing the bill [thumbsup]. She goes monday nights for like 5 hours. It has got to suck.
Congrats man. Nicely done! [thumbsup] 8)
Congrats, great job! [beer]

Damn, i thought he got a degree in fighting bachelors in accounting and finance. Guess ill need to look else where for someone to take care of the idiots in accounting for me. [laugh]
CLEP and DANTES were the smartest things I did. You can borrow a text book from the library and review it before taking the test. I read a book like "Don't know much about the Civil War" and got 3 credits taking the Civil War test.
If you rednecks don't know what the Civil War is, it's the War of Northern Aggression. ;D

Oh, you mean he didn't get awarded his degree in return for vanquishing an accountant in a swordfight, and shooting a corporate finance type with a flintlock pistol at dawn?
I woulda given him a degree for that!
big (Oh, and congrats metallimonster - don't let _anyone_ tell you you needed highschool english as well! [laugh] )
I'm sorry... [evil]
Way to go guy.
I wish that those CLEPs were around when I was in School back in the late '60's early '70's.
I hated French, English Lit. and Typing not to mention Cost Accounting.
You should be very proud ...now go out and make something of yourself :)

HA, no your not! ;D
Its funny I was reading a fantasy book about a duelist at lunch before I posted this. Most have just slipped out.
Double, hopefully I already have made something of myself but I plan on doing much bigger things before I'm done.
Thanks again everyone, it was really hard doing this while working full-time.
He-Man and everyone else still grinding it out- stick with it, it'll be over before you know it and you'll be a much better person afterwards. No homework does rock though [evil]

I was trying to be sincere.... ;D
Congrats [thumbsup]
LUCKY! I still have 1 year left. Dual major, Finance and Personal Financial Planning.
So if anyone want to help me out and give me a job in a year I would be very grateful!
As long as it does not involve mixing cement by hand and carrying 48 buckets up a flight of stairs then spreading the cement at an exact depth and laying tile. <- wet bed floors, I do those too.
Thankfully I don't work in college (just summer) cause "I just wanna ride my motor-cy-cle"
G I JOE!!! Ride my motorcycle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X-6GJpp7QA&feature=related#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)
Kudos to you for having the stamina....number-crunching no less...
that curriculum would have turned me into a classroom annihilator before the first semester was half over
Rat,
Its funny, I had a decent job working on Audi's and decided I hated working flat rate so I just chose finance and accounting (only 2 more classes to get both). Within 3 weeks of my first accounting class I met someone who knew of a job opening in their company. Couple of weeks later I was a Grease Monkey on Friday and an Accountant on Monday. Now I work for a rather large Insurance Company in Reinsurance Accounting and absolutely love it.
I guess accounting was just a calling [roll]
My degree is finance and a few credit hours short of an economics minor.
I thought about getting an accounting minor, but I dropped out of intermediate managerial accounting.
holy shit, that class was make the beast with two backsing impossible or the Prof sucked. I think after 3 weeks, 50% of the people dropped.
Everyone always hates intermediate. I actually loved it, my favorite classes actually. I did have a very good teacher.
I think the thing that Franklin does best is having teachers that are actuall professionals. My intermediate teacher was a Controller and a very big company in columbus and my corporate finance teacher was The treasurer of Big Lots.

I would agree with that.
I always loved adjunct professors as they brought real life issues into class verse a text book made up version of fiction.

Agreed. The only thing I learned in my accounting classes is that my accountant is worth every penny.
