Title: Scammers?
Post by: Struba on April 15, 2010, 02:44:15 PM
G'day all

Advertised my monster on Trading Post and the same day received two text messages, one offering to buy for more than I listed it for and another asking if it was still for sale and to respond via email.... Weird, very weird. Is this the PayPal scam?

This is what they had to say (bad english too)

1st one:
Hi, i will like to purchase your bike and offer you $9200 because I want a very quick sale. Email me at (email address) if my offer is excepted.

2nd:
Hello, i just want to know if your bike you listed on TP is still available for sale? get back to me on (email address) This guy's text message came up as Pat on my phone even though I don't know or have any numbers stored in my phone as Pat??

So far I've just ignored them I mean who would buy a bike without even speaking to the owner?

The second could be legit, it doesn't offer any real 'this is a scam!' vibes.  It could lead to one, but there's nothing wrong with 'Hey, are you still selling this?' as a rule.

The first one is definitely a scam.  And a well-known one at that.  Next they'll send you a cheque or money order, arrange to pick it up and send it to nigeria or whatever, and after it's gone, your payment is revealed to be fake.

Struba it's a scam.
Put simply your bike or money will go missing and you'll be left hung out to dry.

The only person who is legit about buying your bike is the one who calls and comes out to have a look at it.
Bikesales and Bikepoint have been getting scammed for close to the past year.
