Title: Kit Cars Post by: Dragsterhund on May 06, 2008, 12:50:11 PM Has anyone built a kit car before? I absolutely love GT40s, and there are a bunch of places that sell kit versions of them.

It was a piece of shit, there are some really good kit cars out there, you just have to find the right one. I personally am going to build a beck 550 spyder at some point. Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: Monsterlover on May 06, 2008, 01:32:47 PM I put my vote in for anything Factory 5 builds. They have their kits down pat.
<still saving up> Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: Duck-Stew on May 06, 2008, 03:31:16 PM The trick to kit-cars is the fit and finish. If the kit is good (you'll pay more $ for it generally but do some research first) then the finish bits are handled. If the kit is shit....then a LOT of little stuff is left up to the final builder. It's that little shit that can drive you bonkers.
Personally, I think Factory 5 has it down...but I have no FHE with them personally... Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: rgramjet on May 06, 2008, 04:50:59 PM My brother in law has bought 3 in various stages of completion....mainly completed. A Cobra with a 460 school bus motor in it, a Lamborghini Countach and some 250 hp dune buggy that would wheelie in second and was just plain scary! I think he got really good deals through ebay and like I said, he just had to do basic stuff to bring them up to cool! Theres also a kit car show in Carlisle PA that he goes to every year.
He grew out of kit cars and recently built his own Gyrocoptor.....the boy aint right. On a side note, I thoought the Lambo was awesome until I tried to install myself (get in the bloody thing) which literally took 3 minutes. Extricating myself took about 5! I'd like to build one of these...I think you can consider it a kit car Yeah man, this is what I'd get if I had the $$$/time/knowledge/space. There is one local to NZ which does a 7 replica, they have a good rep... http://www.fraser.co.nz/ Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: NAKID on May 06, 2008, 11:03:55 PM Dude, they armor alled the tire tread?! Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: Le Pirate on May 07, 2008, 03:25:42 AM Dude, they armor alled the tire tread?! WTF? ;:| I hadn't even noticed that! I could get rid of that armor all on the tires for them though...real fast like :e:v Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: BWClark on May 07, 2008, 05:38:04 AM Dude, they armor alled the tire tread?! WTF? Nice spotting! ;:| I think armour-alled tread + empty runway = Awesomeness :e:v Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: baadaaboo on May 07, 2008, 05:41:25 AM I'd like to build one of these...I think you can consider it a kit car (http://autocars.setifaq.org/images/Caterham07.jpg) Those tires are sooo oily!! pu:: Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: FatguyRacer on May 07, 2008, 06:58:11 AM I like the Factory 5 Daytona Coupe kits. Since only like 9 real ones were ever built, having one of those would be special. And cheaper too.
http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/coupe/coupekit.html If not a F5 kit, than a Beck Spyder. http://www.beckspeedster.com/ourproducts/spyder550s.html Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: Adam in TX on May 07, 2008, 11:27:58 AM superformance is the beez kneez when it comes to cobra replica's, but I'm not sure it's available as a kit.

The superformance is nice, but you don't really build it. They also claim they are real shelby CSXs because they paid him a crapload of money to do so, that kinda irks me. The factory 5 seems to be of great quality and you can make it your own, not to mention it is cheaper if you do the work yourself. A lot of pride in craftsmanship of the owners and well deserved too. Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: Monsterlover on May 07, 2008, 03:16:00 PM superformance is the beez kneez when it comes to cobra replica's, but I'm not sure it's available as a kit. Every Superformance kit owner ive ever talked to slammed that company and every one of them said they wish'd they'd bought a FFR kit (and advised me to as well :) ) Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: rgramjet on May 10, 2008, 05:13:12 AM Kit Car Nationals in Carlisle PA May 16-18.
Factory Five will be there among many others..... Title: Re: Kit Cars Post by: Speedbag on May 10, 2008, 06:37:08 AM My brother is currently building a Factory Five kit.
From what I've seen, it is a very well thought out and constructed, very complete setup. I, for one, cannot wait to drive it..... |
