I finally just got my bike out of storage (2001 Monster 900Sie) Rode it home, then I noticed some fluid on the front wheel. I am almost positive it was on there before I rode it, as it's only on about 1/3 of the wheel (right side), and just a tiny bit on the left side. So it doesn't look like it was spraying or anything while riding.
From looking around I couldn't really see the sorce of the leak. when I wiped it off, it kind of looked like fresh oil and some grime around too. I have a feeling my fork seal is leaking, but it could be brake fluid too. I've changed fork oil before, but not this bike. How hard is it to check my fork oil?
My brake fluid is right in between min and max, so I don't think that's it. Anyone have any ideas, or help on checking fork oil level? Thanks!
you would be ab;e to see a leaking seal - check again for the source
Clean around the fork seals and dry. Dust with some talc and compress the forks several times. If the seals are leaking it will show up in short order.
Id have to agree. If there is a film of fork fluid on the sliders then it's probably that. You could always look at the calipers, right where the bleeder valve is. If it has some fluid residue around the little boot that covers it then that might be it...
Yeah, my right side fork is leaking at the seal. So I'll need new seals, do I also need new dust seals too? Or maybe a better question is what exactly do I need to fix this, and is there any vids or detailed links that could guide me to doing this on my own. Like I said before I've changed fork oil on my old bike that had standard forks, but not the seals, and definately not on inverted forks.
Thanks for the help!
