Ok, so I just moved into the 21st century and got an iphone.
I know there are a lot of folks on this board that have 'em.
What are some of your favorite/most used apps?
Where do you get your apps? itunes store, amazon, etc.
Sorry if this is a derby, I did a search and came up empty.
Jeff
Just wondering why you bought one now and didn't wait for the new one to come out in June?
I wanted to get one for a graduation present to myself and now am waiting.
I'm trying to get the most information possible. Maybe the 3GS is enough for me?

Which has hundreds of apps. Which apps do you have and use/enjoy most?
I got an offer on the 3g I couldn't refuse, and I'm not the most hi-tech guy in the world. I'm sure this'll do me for years.
My previous phone was bought in 2001. [roll]
<EDITED>
Metallimonster,
AT&T's 3g network sucks.
I don't think it matters if you have a 3G or 3GS
also remember not all data speeds are available in all markets.
I just got some new demo Air Card from AT&T. It is supposed to be "faster" then the other 3g cards. However, there are currently only 10 markets where this device will work. One of them is Miami, FL and I happen to be going there right after I got the card.
It make the beast with two backsing sucked.
Faster network? Um, no.
More connection issues? Um, yes.
I manage 700+ phones through AT&T and their coverage sucks.
I have a Bold 9700 3g through AT&T
Wife has a Blackberry Tour through Sprint.
we always race to see who can load or find something quicker on the internet from our phones.
I lose every make the beast with two backsing time by at least 10 seconds.
I'd wait til Sprint releases the I-Phone. I think it is later this year or next year, probably whenever the exclusive agreement with AT&T expires.
email me at my work addy if you want more information as it is not allowed in this thread.
You can also get apps from the app store on the phone itself.
I have IMDB, Skype, Facebook, google, several medical apps, etc...

Mainly stupid shit like Facebook. ;D
Actually, if you go to the app store, in the search area, you can find a list of the top free apps. All of them will have ratings.
I do use Shazam quite a bit (music identification), Urbanspoon (restaurants), WeatherBug, Sportacular, Trailguru (mapping app for hiking, biking, running, etc.).
I'd go look for some free apps. Try them out. If you don't like them, delete them.
And I'm not sure what's CB's post has to do with apps other than he feels that AT&T's network sucks.
And why hasn't anyone created a DMF app yet?
I know the first App I'm going to download is the Austin Carr soundboard.
"If at first you don't succeed, then throw the hammer down!"
For most of you this won't make sense but Austin Carr is an old Cavaliers player who now does color for the FSN broadcasts of Cavs games and he is freaking hilarious. ;D
40cozy.com's pour1out iPhone app
Do you ever wish you could pour one out for a homie, but don't have a 40oz nearby? Wait, you just bought a $200 phone, do you even know what a 40 of malt liquor is? Either way, now you can impress your friends with how “street†you are by pouring one out next time Tupac or Biggie is bumping

also an important innovation-

The OP has the phone and asked about apps. how does your rant about ATT sucking help in any way? Oh wait...because you like to point out how everything sucks so it helps your ego...right.
I talk on the phone for work while reading emails all the time...love it and have had no problems in the DC/Balto metro area.
But to apps... use runkeeper all the time...tracks runs and gives audio feedback to pace and distance while playing music.
radarscope. nice to see what's coming when on the Bay.
photovault...for the pics you don't want anyone else to see if you forget your phone somewhere.
weatherbug...good weather app.
docs to go. if you need to edit word/excel/pdf on your iphone.
soundhound..for figuring out name of song and artist playing so you can buy song later.
I've got a bunch of boat specific ones like buoydata, shipfinder, wind meter.
words with friends...for fun scrabble games with folks when you have a minute.

Unfortunately, there's no app for Cyrus.
;D
Sounds like weatherbug and skype are popular. What about games?

My post was aimed at my friend Metallimonster who was talking about buying an I-phone now or waiting for the new model.
It was not directed at apps.
Sorry I didnt make it more clear.
and yes, pointing out that something sucks helps my ego in some way I am not aware of. Guess I better go see a shrink. Thanks for the advice [thumbsup]
the apps I use the most are:
Facebook
Cycle World
Evernote
Goodreads
OpenTable
The Onion
Google
Wine Notes
Yelp
IMDb
Siri
MakeUseOf
Cartoon-Wars
as much as I can't stand the Mac OS, I love the iPhone OS.
Oh, and the network totally depends on where you are. Here in Boston AT&T is by far the fastest and most reliable. I switched after years of Verizon dropping calls, loosing text messages, and basically being painfully terrible, and I have never regretted it.

+1 Cyrus is an expert on everything, but he can't be everywhere at once. He might know someone that lives in every squared area of the country to tell him that AT&T sucks everywhere. Sprint sucked ass where I live and Verizon coast me about $60 more than similar service with AT&T. Have never used T-Mobile, but the grass is always greener.
ANyway, about apps, I'm a cheap ass so I tend to download only free stuff. Been looking for a free SoundHound now for a while, but have never found it. These are the ones I use constantly:
Facebook
AroundMe - like the yellow pages, but only for stuff in the general vesinity
Google
Pandora - Free internet radio (awesome)
Photobucket
Weather Channel
TM Zero - someone here posted it and they continually update with free new maps.
Thanks Jud,
I've been wondering if the new Iphone is going to be 4G since Sprint is the only carrier with working 4G.
Don't know if I can wait that long though.
All of these Apps sound pretty good.
Thanks Carlos. I actively track service issues among my internal customers.
The one app I liked on my BB which I am sure I-Phone has was MusicID.
Basically if you don't know the name of the song, you launch the app, and then it analyzes the song and will give you the name of song and artist. Of course, not all songs are registered, but it worked really well during the 30 day free trial I had it for.
So you do know at least one person that lives in every square inch of the nation!! You are so dreamy.
Shazam does the same thing as MusicID. It used to be totally free and unlimited, but I think there is now a free version that lets you identify a certain number of songs per month and a paid version that is unlimited.

That one is way cool.
We tried to stump a buddy's iPhone with that app one night whilst boozing.....damn phone knew the song every time, and I was pulling out some obscure stuff.
Most used apps for me
-Flashlight
-Loan-U-later (we're in the market for a house, it's nice to figure mortgage info)
-Zombie Attack
-Cube Runner
-TM Zero (I started a thread about this one. UBER awesome game!)
Peg Jump (digital version of golf tees in a wooden triangle)
Now, I look like a badass when I take chicks on dates to Cracker Barrel.
Meebo has thus far been the best free chat app I have found. Anyone find anything better?
Yelp is GREAT and I wouldnt call it useful, but I am completely addicted to Foodspotting. Useful if you need help working up an appetite I guess.
I think the Iphone is probably significantly less useful if you don't live in a major metro area.
unlock your phone and apps will be the least of your worries. incredible the differences when not having to go through Steve's pants.
BUT if you play the game within the rules just search for TOP APPS and then FREE.....hundreds
My top picks are
Trip Tracker - A travelers best friend! Awesome for keeping track of mulitiple iteneraries
Google Earth
Skype - Free calls to my wife from half way across the world
Facebook
Pandora - Unfortunately doesn't work in the places outside of the US I travel to. Cool at home though.
Ebay - Easiest way to track all your watched items
