Title: Visiting Colorado Springs, and I thought Michigan had nuts weather
Post by: DucatiTorrey on April 24, 2010, 05:34:01 AM
I thought i'd post this here too, its also in the SOCO DOGs board. The wife and I have been visiting the Springs area looking for apartments, the wife got a promotion. We knew we should expect thunderstorms, which is what we found when we arrived late Thursday night. What was crazy was we awoke to snow, an inch or so on the ground. AND, while driving around apartment hunting that day, this is the weather changes that we encountered. Heading North on 25 towards the Air Force Academy, 10 to 15 inches of snow, and in the Springs, a light drizzle. (all with only 200 feet of elevation change, thank you GPS)

And I thought Michigan had crazy weather! [roll]
oh and i found a pretty great area for riding, Garden of the Gods park, its a slow speed road, but will still be fun

I lived there for a bit over a year way back 'bout 20 years ago and still have family there. Yes, expect crazy weather, but the winters are overall pretty mild and you really shouldn't have to winterize your bike. You'll see 60's and even 70's here and there throughout the winter. There are some great rides out there, go through Manitou Springs and keep on going. Take up skiing and/or snowboarding if you haven't already, it's a short drive to Denver, then take the train to the ski resorts.....uh scratch that, that sucks, the ski train is done!!????

Trust me, there will be days like this all spring, but sunshine all around them.

And the winters here are far more favorable than Michigan.  [thumbsup]

Except this winter.     [roll]

Good luck with the apt. hunting DucatiTorrey!  And welcome to the land of Michigan transplants (I spent 40 years in Holland â€" I know that weather you speak of).   ;)

Garden of the gods will be too slow to ever enjoy at any speed, but it's a great place to bring a camera and go for a hike.

I've done a few mortorcycle vacations from the CS area and fortunately you will be a very short distance to some pretty great roads......I'm jealous

It's tough all over.  Looks like tornadoes outside here in far N.West South Carolina right now.

I graduated from Woodland Park just up the pass. I'd take the weather there over here in Iowa any day. [bang]

Thats's the fun of riding in the Rockies, start out on a 90 deg. august day and get snowed on 80 miles down the road!!   Ya just gotta be prepared for whats around the next corner, snow, rockslides, critters, tourists.....
