Title: nicks in lower fork legs
Post by: pitbull on April 25, 2010, 01:06:56 PM
can nicks in the lower fork legs be buffed out? and if so, would it be done with a high grit sand paper or a steel wool?

the nicks are quite small and I didn't notice them until I started to take them apart for a fork seal swap.

I had some scratches in mine that I got out with 600 grit.

The chrome is really thin. Be careful.

Old school trick we use on mountain bike fork s
dab on some nail polish or super glue to fill the scratch then use 1200 grit to polish smooth
wether you use your own nail polish or ya mums is up to you ;D

Pretty standard for Monsters to get those dings.

600 or finer, use a little WD40, sand around the leg, not lengthwise.

I used 600 grit, lubed with a little fork oil, being mindful of the thin chrome mentioned by DP.  It appears to be nice and smooth, but the nail polish trick has me intrigued.

I'm actually more concerned with the difficulty I had getting the new fork seals on.......... They were a real PITA. Hopefully I didn't brutalize them too much.

thanks to all who posted tips.....much appreciated

There goes Nick talking about Nicks.  [laugh]  Ah, I'm so corny.
