Hi All.
Can anyone tell me the difference between a tach cable and a speedo cable? I'm looking to buy one, but the seller is unsure which it is. Is the tach cable going to be shorter?
Cheers.
Well if it's a circa 2000 and before bike with a mechanical speedo - there is an actual cable that runs from a drive on the front wheel to the gauges. The whole thigns about 1cm in diameter, has and outer sleeve, and a cable with squared ends inside that spins freely. The outer sheath will have threaded ends where it's attached to that speedo drive and the guages.
The Tach wire will be an actual wire

Actually, they had a mechanical cable driven tach back in the day.
If you look at the horizontal head on the belt side you can see the remnants of where it went.
I stand corrected... ok I know for sure my comments apply to a 2000 900 IE... take the rest with a grain of salt

It's OK.
AFAIK the Monster never used that tach. It was used on SS models, and probably others.
My guess is that the tach cable will be about 10" shorter.
None of the Monsters in my shop right now have a speedo cable...
