I have a Monster 696 and when I turn the rear wheel by hand it makes a scraping sound as if the disk is scraping against the caliper. It only happens on some areas of the disk though. I'm thinking it may be warped a bit, because I was in a crash around 3 weeks ago (lowside on turn) but I've since ridden the bike for a week (put on 150 miles) and the noise has just now started. The only explanation I can think of it is that it could be the brake indicator like on cars when you need new brakes, but I've only had this bike for 2100 miles.
Any ideas?
Do you hear the noise when you ride? Any pulsation in the rear brake lever when you apply the rear brake? Any other symptoms? How loud is the scraping?
There is some brake drag when the brakes are not applied, so what you are hearing may be normal. You should check the brake pads for both wear and debris that may be caught between the caliper or brake pad and the rotor though. While you are at it, check the free play at the rear brake lever. You need 1.5 to 2mm free play, which is adjusted at the pushrod.
Besides what Howie said and the possibility of warp-ed-ness...
