Hey SoCal DMF'rs,
It's my birthday next weekend. 8) Come help me celebrate by accompanying me up HWY 33.
A friend of mine already organized the ride on FaceBook, but I figured I'd extend the invite to the DMF homies too. [moto]
We're meeting in Moorpark in the Starbucks parking lot at Collins Drive and the 118 Freeway.
It's behind the Shell gas station and McDonald's.
6595 Collins Drive
Moorpark, CA 93021-1497
Meet Time: 10am Kickstands up by 10:30
We will be stopping along the way for food and beverages, gas if needed.
We'll be riding out through the Moorpark Highlands and down Balcom Cyn to S. Mountain Rd. into Santa Paula. From there we pick up the 150 into Ojai. We'll regroup and refuel at the 76 at the bottom of the 33. Then up we go through the National Forest and miles and miles of blissfully twisty-turny tarmac. ;D
There's a little roadhouse about halfway up that has been undergoing restoration. Hopefully they are open by now. In fact, I think I'm going to ride up there to check it out tomorrow (5/2) if anyone wants to come along.
The only gift I want for you to bring to my birthday is your enthusiasm for riding and a positive attitude. [thumbsup] A good day riding with kindred spirits is all anyone can really wish for. :)
I hope to see some old friends, and some new faces too!
-Ryan [bacon]
Well of course Ill be there!!!!
I'd love to roll and do the A.M Bacon Battle ( aka breakfast ) followed by a quality ride....but its mothers day weekend and as we all know i have a small army at home.... and i'm down for the count on that day[bang]
Damned straight I'll be there!
But I do have a caveat: Absolutely NO return on 33! It's either Cerro or nothin perro. [thumbsup]

Dude! I have a set of Paioli forks sitting in my garage. Not exactly Öhlins, but they were gone through by Nick @ Valley Ducati service. I took them off my bike when I put the Showas on a few months ago.
Bring your bike over, we'll put 'em on, or just come pick 'em up. They'll get you through the ride untill you get yours fixed.

Bacon Junkie- I've been considering your generous offer- but again, *just in case* something happened, it would be really terrible to have something happen to the birthday boy's bike. Photos from Ryan's birthday ride yesterday. Jodi, the lady that organized the ride, provided the birthday boys (another fellow was celebrating as well) with capes, and the rest of us with red scarves. Another one of Ryan's friends (yes, amazingly, he has several!), who couldnt make the ride, did make celebratory "mohawks" for their helmets. The ride itself was great, and it even included a police chase!!! What better way to celebrate, eh?

Gotta spend the weekend w/ family for my mom's birthday. [roll]
Details bro! What time? Up and back, or long-way-round? (sounds like the menu at a whorehouse)
If I can get free of all the work around the house we are doing, I may be able to join up with you in SP.
I was thinking everyone could meet at orangelion's new place for breakfast in Santa Paula... [evil]
Actually, a coupla different ideas... If folks wanna eat breakfast, I was thinking Eggs-n-Things right at the base of the 33 in Ojai. (across from the 76 gas station)
If you hooligans wanna just ride, meet me in Moorpark and I'll show you a more "entertaining" back way to Ojai besides the superslab.
I usually leave my house at 8am and get to Ojai by 9. Times, of course, can be adjusted to suit those coming from further away...
Okay, so after a few emails and texts, it looks like we're meeting at the Shell gas station on the corner of Collins and Campus Park drive in Moorpark @ 10am sunday morning. There's a Starbucks, McDonald's, and a liquor store right there also if you need food or beverages... ;)
[bacon]
A beautiful loop is up the 33, right on lookwood valley, left on Frazier mountain road (potrero cny) and go through pine mountain club up to the 166, then left and back through the 33 again.
If you want to make it shorter you can turn right on Frazier mountain road and ride 5 miles to the I5 and get back.
The long loop loop is awesome and I do it quite often since I'm a local (I live in Frazier park)
There's a beautiful environment @ PMC to stop for lunch and gas, recharge energy and get ready to ride back!!!
Next time I'll join you guys for sure since my broken wrist won't let me ride this time!!!!
good luck to all of you!!!!
Last Sunday we took the 33 all the way to 166, then right on Cerro Noroeste, then right onto Lockwood Valley and back to the 33.
Sometimes we'll take it out to the 5, take Old Gorman Post Rd to the 138, then Five Points Rd to Lake Hughes/ Elizabeth Lake Rd and down San Francisquito Cyn rd.
Usually 268 miles door to door.
We ain't going that far tomorrow. Probably just an out and back, but I'll leave it up to the crew on what they want to do..
Count me in... [moto]
cool. [thumbsup]
see you @ 10am. [moto]

Once our puck-scratching itch was, uh... scratched, we took it really mellow for the rest of the ride. I noticed a lot of scenery and things on Cerro that I had never seen before. [evil] [roll] ;D
All in all, a good day. Jody, Thomas, and I stopped at the Screaming Squirrel for refreshments, but someone boring must have bought the place, cuz they re-named it the Pine Mountain Roadhouse. :-\ Real original. They must have thought long and hard about that. [roll]
Everyone made it home safe, so that makes everything good.
Thanks for coming out. There were supposed to be at least 3 more, but I guess they had stuff to do. No worries, though. Six is a nice size group.

that's a shame... i was just telling some friends about that place last night.
wish i'd seen this thread a little earlier. i was achin' to get out of the city and ride up north of ojai. ;)
Looks like fun. I've only been there once and loved the road. We took the 5 north exited Frazier Park Mnt Road - turned left, another left on Valley...something or other road and down the 33 to some tasty food at the base of the mountain.
I'll try and hit up the next outing [thumbsup]

Highlights of the day:
1. Showing the local roads to a resident of the OC.

4. Showing John that I can manage to stay upright for a whole ride.

Everyone says they want to ride someplace other than the local Malibu canyons or ACH, so here's your chance.
We's gonna do da 33 again tomorrow... [evil]
Get up a little earlier, meet us at Eggs-n-Things in Ojai (Google it) across from THE gas station @ 9:30am for bacon and anything else you might want to eat. (like you need anything else!)
Last time we had a guy ride up from LONG BEACH :o to meet us and he had the time of his life!
So, you first-timers, no excuses. Once on the 33 it's impossible to get lost, so if ya want to ride a slower pace, GREAT! We wait at all turning points for ya! Nobody gets left behind. [thumbsup]
I've been taking it a little easier on the roads now that I have a track bike, so the pace won't be too quick... ;)
So far it's me, SacDuc, and I think Lawbreaker (can't back out now) [evil]
See y'all tomorrow...

[bacon]
Dammit, I wish I would have seen this sooner. I'm all tied up tomorrow. I wanna go on the next run for sure!!
Have fun fellas! [thumbsup]
Special thanks to Bacon Junkie and orangelion for taking it easy on me today. Its now 8:00pm and I'm just starting to feel better. I don't know if it was the heat today or the booze last night or both but I definitely know that cutting my ride short was the right thing to do. Thanks for helping me be responsible fellas! [thumbsup]
Next time we'll [moto] a bit faster and definitely put more miles behind us.

Glad you made it home safely Carl!! It was brutal yesterday!!!

SSSHHHHHHH!!!!
Don't tell people it was brutal, they won't want to come ride now!
Oh wait.... I forgot. Nevermind. [roll]
[bacon]
ride'n it tomorrow....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Bring a lotta water...
It was 104 up there yesterday, and tomorrow it's gonna be upper in the 90's.
Do you take the 5 to Frazier Park, then Cerro Noroeste, or come up the 166 from Taft/Maricopa?
it sucked up there today.
82 degrees on the kern county side..... 50 degrees on the hill..... granite construction holding up traffic to patch the road.... tons of asphalt trucks crossing the double yellow.... so I decided to take the 5 back and it's 105 from Ojai on into Bako >:(
not a happy funtime ride to be had today.
that and I got stood up on a riding partner in Mericopa.
Sux dood...
Next time we go up, come down the day before, stay over, (I'll cook bacon) and we'll head out through the orange and avocado groves to the 150 to the 33....
We call it the 5 couties loop. Ventura, Santa Barbara, SLO, Kern, and LA Counties.
Cerro Noroeste Rd. = [bow_down] [drool] [bacon]

I'll just have to make the best of it....
NEXT weekend, on the other hand, I'm down!

Okay, we're doing this thing again...
I know, it's Mother's Day.... But it's also my birthday! ;D
So, we're gonna meet in Ojai at Eggs-n-Things around 10 or so for breakfast.
It's right where the 33 breaks off from the 150 and heads NORTH.
The "IN" list so far...
Sac Duc
polpetta
ME
So, if you haven't sold your Duc yet, or you hate your mother, come on along and have some fun! [moto]
Disclaimer: I love my Mother very much, but she lives 3,000 miles away. ;)

At 150mph, 3,000mi is only 20 hours. [cheeky]
You all have fun up there! I've been wanting to hit Ojai since last summer but the ride dates never seem to work for me.
In a week or 2 I might be up for a 1-way trip on my way to SLO.

Well, I usually can be found out there just about every weekend...
Especially now that Sac Duc has a running bike.
(even if he still doesn't have a key for it 6 months later...) Just make up your mind and come out... We'll be there.
