Title: Bike got torched...
Post by: Embyr on May 02, 2010, 09:29:13 AM
Someone set fire to my motorcycle cover and placed a six-pack of rotten eggs next to my bike. I'm so saddened and very angry... no idea who this could have been. I have a fire report #, getting the incident report and getting in touch with the arson investigator tomorrow.

That is rotten!
Something has to be done about bike haters! When I leave my bike covered in Park LaBrea I get stickers all the time on it complaining I am taking up a car space. Always wondering if it is going to be lying on the ground in the morning.
Really sorry to hear that!

thanks guys.  yes, fortunately i do have full coverage on her.  i'm planning on repairing her as my deductible is pretty low and i really don't want to think about getting another bike.  but yeah, i'm *pissed.*

you homeowners might cover it.  Probably take less of a hit on your premium than on your auto.

oh i'm only 25, i don't own a home.  if i can prove it was arson hopefully my premiums won't increase... hence my detective work tomorrow.

Time to set up cameras. Or get a LOUD vehicle alarm system.

Then Issue some 12g love to the perpetrators chests.

When the cops show up just say

"It was justified"   [thumbsup]

Truly sucks though, It fills me with rage just seeing this happen to someone else. I don't want to imagine how I would react if it was my bike.

Just... Wow... If that were me, I'd be camping out around the corner out of site with a bat waiting for someone to come by and say something like, "That's what she gets." Then the beat down comes. WTF is wrong with people?

What a shame.  Sorry to hear it.  I once had someone at my work put an opened condom (hopefully not a used one) on my triple clamp.  When I saw it, I went ballistic and walked into work ready to lose my job, as I knew who must have done it.  Do you have anyone you suspect might have done it?  Any conflict or tension around there?  Might be a good start.

Regardless, sorry to hear it.  Your bike looked beautiful.  Hopefully it's back to its normal self soon.

Joel

^ thanks, i hope so, too...
yeah, the thing is i have absolutely no idea. other than silly political internet debates with other riders, i haven't been in a real fight for YEARS... i honestly didn't think anyone disliked me... i'm friendly or cordial with all my ex's...  i've not a clue. :/
Not many people know where I live, either... it concerns me.

this is one of the lowest, most crappy things i've ever seen. (and i've seen a lot)! there are cowards in this world and this is how they communicate. i'm guessing cowards have no communication skills. have you ever heard a single word about the 'noise' coming from your bike? i can't imagine anything else it could be given your comment of never being in any arguements with anyone.

This make the beast with two backser that did this hopefully has some seriously bad karma coming.

True dat. These DMF folk are whizzes at finding/donating parts, labor and expertise. Especially when someone is a victim of such a bullshit act of cowardice as this. Ask for whatever you need.

Sorry this happened.

wow, thank you guys.  insurance should take care of it but i will keep y'all in mind. :)

so i just spoke to the arson investigator-  looks like it was intentional, but i was not specifically targeted.    my bike lives in the alley right next to my garage (best i can do- she absolutely doesn't fit and i work late- it was juggling my safety by walking far by myself at 3 am or my vehicles' safety...), doubly locked, always covered- but there were 3 alley fires that night in the course of an hour... looks like i just caught a bad break. boo. :(
probably some punkass kids.  i hope they get taught a lesson by more vicious predators the next time they f*ck with peoples' stuff.

hmm... That's a valid point.  I wasn't really thinking of it like that. River rides a 620 that's "female" so I guess it's just up to the "personality" of the bike.

I'm thinking this could be a whole thread by itself...  ;)

From looking at some of the pic's, mybe you could put up a small gate. Out of site out of mind,if you know what I mean. Sound's like your on top of it all and your just itching to get your bike fixed and back out there! Hope to see you out there on the road some time! I ride a Red Monster S4.

^ LOL.  Hey, like I said, on those no-makeup + baseball hat days, I make an adorable little boy.

So the bike is now @ cyclemall in tustin... hopefully it won't be totaled out (worried most about the brembos). I may be posting some WTB threads if the cost is hovering around the 1/2-2/3 value of the bike.

I live in Long Beach... in the 'Gayborhood.' Not an unsafe area (kinda near the 4th st. retro row district); although there is some petty crime, I think this was just an unfortunate anomaly.

Um, thanks for painting me as naive... I am aware of my surroundings, thanks... I have a few police contacts and I do understand the area. I'm closer to broadway than to 4th st.- I just named the area for reference. I understand that as one gets further away from Ocean and closer to... well, Anaheim St...  things get really rough.
It's Long Beach- unless you live in Bixby Knolls you face some risk- I get it.

However, if you wanna see something really fun, go check out LB on a sex offender map.  Or in the papers regarding that topic.  (And yes, I'm being facetious when I say 'fun.')

You painted yourself as naive. Sorry if me being concerned with your safety bothered you. When I was with LB I rolled up on an in progress armed robbery at Ocean and Cerritos. My old beat was LBB to Cherry, 7th to Ocean. There is no magic line where this crap doesn't happen. 5th and Cherry is worse then Anaheim and Redondo. Anyways....be safe.

... I appreciate the concern for my safety- but I'm not a naive person, nor did I say anything like "omg, i can't believe this happened," "long beach isn't like this," etc.  I appreciate your experience and advice but I will politely disagree with you.

Title: Re: Bike got torched...

That's the bottom line.

Well, I could tell my bosses that if they didn't have their heads shoved up their collective butts, and listened to me when I first offered them a solution to a particular problem, we could have avoided this bigger problem. But that probably wouldn't go over too well.

There's something to be said about good presentation...

The bottom line isn't always the bottom line...  People tend to ignore it when the rest of the statement comes off sounding cocky or condescending.  :-\

First, sorry to hear about Embyr's misfortune.  Hopefully the bike is on the road (get it?) to being fully repaired soon...  I work in/near LB and hate hate hate the stupid SOBs who foul up that area.

Next, let's all agree that all people have a different way of expressing themselves.  hbliam's work requires a certain terseness in language so it only makes sense that it carries over.  I'm sure most everyone here just wants to look out for everyone else.

Not to state the obvious, but have you considered moving somewhere with more parking space?  And if you find such a place in Belmont or somewhere else in LB, let me know if they have more units... I'm looking to move closer to work.  ;D

^ i found a better place to park the bike when i get her back... but no, she doesn't fit in the garage, and parking only the bike and not the car isn't an option. (there is literally NO street parking after 5pm)
i'd move but i'm applying to grad schools this fall anyway... kinda not worth it. moving's a pregnant dog.

Glad to see the ball rolling on getting you back on two wheels...

What year Monster is it again? What parts do you need?  I know some of us on the board have extras of different things that you might be able to use.  For instance, duc_poultry had a tank for duc750 when he banged his up. Duck-Stew hooked me up with some extra rearsets he had, etc...

Post up what you need, maybe some of the riders here have what you need for a lot less $$$ than if you were to order brand new OEM stuff from Italy.

Good luck getting back on two wheels soon..   [beer]

it turns out the mobile adjuster dropped the ball and never called my shop back or made the final approval...   [bang] [bang] [bang]   he has to go back to the shop and give the last ok before the shop can order parts... apparently i was repeating heresy. faaaaack.

this is gonna take FOREVER.

GEEZ...!

That really sucks...   >:(

So the parts that were supposedly ordered a few weeks back were never ordered?  How come the shop never notified you until now?!

Try not to get down about it. (easier said than done, I know) Use it as a chance to make sure you're getting the exact parts you want.

Good luck, you'll be back [moto] before you know it..

this is a good question. ugh.  i should have called earlier, i guess it's partially my fault. there will be a few harder-to-find parts- i might start asking about things fairly soon and seeing if people have parts i can buy, or if anyone can direct me to people parting out. (cluster, etc.)

Keep us in the loop.  Lots of the peeps around here have stock parts they took of when they did mods.

I'm sure some of them would be willing to sell/donate/help in some way.

Unfortunately, all I have are some ugly mirrors and a set of Paioli forks off of a '99 M750.

^ will do, and thanks.  i'm gonna go by the store and get a parts list this week to speed up the process...  i'll work on getting the more difficult parts and let them handle the rest.  the nice thing is i have a semi-decent chunk of change to work with, thank you insurance. :)    how lovely when it doesn't come from your pocket, lol.

Hey kids-  sorry to be totally absent from the forum this past month or two-   just got my bike back last night!!! she looks fantastic, sounds great, feels superb!!  i have a better spot for her now, but here are some pics (in the old spot); doesn't she look purty?
Can't wait to finally meet y'all on some rides now!

New headlights/front fender

So shiny! The detailer @ Cyclemall did an AMAzing job... thought I was gonna have to repaint her, but this was not the case!

Looks beautiful... even if you can still see the burn marks from where this happened. (again, she's in a safer spot now)

So when are we riding? :p

You're welcome!

I never saw your bike pre-torching.  Didn't know about the mods.  I thought maybe they were generous "gifts" from your insurance company.   [evil]  ;)

I might be riding sunday morning.  Not sure where, though.  Prolly local...

...   i pocketed the 'generous gift' from my insurance company.  *cough*    (is it wrong that at one point i told my shop 'damn, perhaps the bike should burn more often!')   [evil]   not that i ever would do something like that intentionally, of course...  this was pretty devastating.    i may wait another week or two til i feel comfortable going on a canyon ride- it has been three months, but i will be looking out for sunday & mid-week ride posts. :)

good job on getting it back to normal, it looks like the repairs weren't that bad, so that is good.

^ thank you guys, but au contraire re: repairs... it should have been totaled. everything combined that was torched, including the fork seals, was way more than 2/3 of the bike's value. my shop somehow convinced insurance to let me keep it... i'm very grateful.
