Title: recover stock seat??
Post by: uglyducky on May 03, 2010, 10:15:52 AM
i'm in LA and wondering if anyone knows of someone who can recover my stock seat?  or is it more cost effective to buy new?

Its about 150 to 175 for a basic re upholstery... something like this cost a little more :) (http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad270/milespduc/IMG_0325.jpg)

Here's one option.

There is another company that some here have seat covers from but can't remember the name.

Most upholstery spots can put these on or, you could always try DIY.

Sargent offers reasonably priced skins for Monsters...less than $100.

I was going to have a local shop recover my seat using the stock waffle-patterned part and new red material for the rest of the seat, for less that $50.

I saw these on flea-bay

for my money I'm leaning towards the new OEM touring seat, 05 620.

I would say go to an upholstery place... It is kind of easy to make the seat look bad it not glued and stapled properly... I learned that the hard way :(

Sorry, I meant an upholstery shop.  I'm in Santa Clarita and the shop is around the corner from me on Ruether near Soledad.  If that is not inconvenient for you, PM me and I'll give you the info.

HTMoto
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=26129.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=26129.0)

the vinyl on my seat was dying so I took to my local shop and asked for it to be recovered.  They used HTMoto and I think it looks absolutely amazing.

The picture on the website is actually my seat, it was the first one they'd done, but here are some close ups.

Hmm, couple of them are a little IZ_.  Sorry, I was using a tripod and macro lense so I could zoom in close.  Must've bumped the tripod or something.

I picked the CF vinyl and non-slip vinyl, both black, altho the non-slip has a little more of a matte finish to it.  i wanted it to look 'kind of' stock, with a dash of zazz.  If you go to the website, you can pick the color and material for each panel, from a pretty extensive list.

edit: I forgot to add, I think is' like $120 installed.  $80 cover, + $40 installed, IIRC.  They're in OC.

This thread just opened a big can of worms with me...  I put about 500 miles on this weekend and my rump is killing me now.  I really think seat mods are too far and few between on here.  Last night I had some pretty good ideas for a new seat.  I'm thinking about taking a stock seat and adding about 1.5" to the height on the back of the seat (think Cafe racer shaped rear), making the hump in the front larger to keep me pushed back in the saddle further, and adding softer faom composites and gel inserts in the saddle.  I was thinking of trying my hand on the foam addition and shaping and taking it to a professional for reupholstery.  I'm adding more yellow bits to my dark and I want to have yellow stitching and piping with the carbon look synthetic leather.  I was also thinking about integrating an LED rear/brake/turn lights directly in to the back of the seat.

Seeing how you guys think the idea sounds.  I'd also need to pick up another stock seat (don't care about the condition of the cover because I'd be breaking it down anyways).  Let me know of any questions, coments, or helpful hints.

*Sorry for the thread-jack*

Bellagio...working on a similar idea!  I'm working a deal on a stock seat and plan to work with local upholstery shop to create a custom solo seat.  Will post here as things progress.

Good deal, I'll let you know how my idea pans out.  I called a few local reputable shops here in Milwaukee, Wi and I'm getting an estimate of $180-200 just for recovering it.  Like I said, I'm planning on doing the foaming myself, I might see what they'd charge for it to be done completely in house.

So I emailed HT Moto about finding a dealer in my area since I haven't the slightest clue where to go......they replied a few days later saying they couldn't help since "we have so many dealers we can't count them and they're located all over the world"

Is this a normal response? I really don't know any upholsters around here and My Duc dealer is a bit of a drive for me

Thats a bit annoying...
