Title: New rear shock for my S2R1K!
Post by: Monstermash on June 02, 2008, 05:38:30 PM
Hey all,

One of the things I had yet to upgrade was my stock rear shock. Short of spending the money on an Ohlins, there are not many choices for the S2R1K. As I'm sure most of you know the stock Sachs shock on the S2R1K leaves a little to be desired....ok it freakin' sucks! No compression damping? What the hell was Ducati thinking?

Anyway, I really wanted a fully adjustable rear shock so I did some digging and found one that would work.

I finally found one that was pretty inexpensive listed for sale on a forum with only about 200 miles on it.. It arrived today and I promptly installed it and took it for a ride. I have to say it's a huge improvement over the stock shock!

Anyway, here's what I ended up with. Anyone want to try and guess what it is?

how long did it take you to install? I'd be interested in hearing about that...

No idea - I was going to say Penske but I'm pretty sure that's not one.  Ohlins and Penske are the only two manufacturers I could even think of, they've got that market sewn up tight.

I know what it is... [cheeky]

How did you make up for the shorter shock? [coffee]

Longer ride height rod?

do tell the details cause I couldn't make it work as well as I hoped...

Q -

It's not the same one you used (not shiney gold!  [laugh] ) I think he did crank up the ride height quite a bit ...

1098 shock :)

My S4Rt has the sachs on it, and no one wants to re-spring/re-valve it....

I'm wondering if the 1098's showa could be made to work well with a spring and re-valve...as I don't really have the coin for a 1K Ohlins shock myself.  I'm assuming if it fits the S2R it ought to fit my bike as well.?

Did it come from another s2r or a different bike?

It came from a 1098.

There is a slight difference in the length between the stock Sachs and the Showa from the 1098. The Showa is about 3/4 of an inch shorter than the stock shock. No biggie though as there was plenty of adjustment on the ride height to make up for it.
