Why is it that When I go to commonwealth or ducati of Omaha there schematics only go back as far as 2000?
I bought myself the Haynes ManYo. but I wish it had an actual parts breakdown. :(
You guys know of any place I can go that has the break downs so I can order parts?
Just frustrating is all. Ive had my "new to me' ride for about a month and have only put 25 miles on her. I wanted to get it ready before the season and I am having a bit of bad luck. Oh well.. its still fun.
A 2000 M750 is pretty much the same as a 1998.
I'm sure there were some differences, offhand I'm not sure what.
I've got a '99 M750, it's carbed. When did the Monster go to FI? That'd make some difference I'm sure ~

Don't know what the problem is with your local dealers, but there shouldn't be any problems looking up or ordering parts for your '98 750. Both Lightspeed and Ducati's own web-based electronic parts catalogs include full listings for all years of the Monsters. I worked for a Ducati dealer up until only a very short time ago and had no problems at all getting parts for any of the Monsters. Many dealers may not stock all the parts you need simply because it's only really economical and profitable to carry the stuff that sells often, and even then ideally only the stuff that fits the most models are the easiest for most shops to keep in inventory such as tires, chains, fluids, filters and common tuneup parts and most gaskets. In that respect your '98 doesn't differ much from the later Monsters. Oil filters, spark plugs, chain, oil, tires, bulbs, levers, grips, and many of the gaskets and o-rings in the 2-valve engines carry over for many years and models so there shouldn't be any real problem keeping your Monster going for years to come. Some of the body parts could get pretty pricey, but e-bay and the web can be your friend there. If you need any '98-specific parts for your M750 and your local dealers can't figure it out, I'd suggest checking the links offered on this (and other) sites for dealers who are eager for your business and willing and able to look up parts correctly. The dealerships aren't the problem, the online parts catalogs don't go back far enough. I'm sure if you called DucOmaha or Commoto they will get you what you need.

Yes, 2000 for the M900, but M750 wasn't injected until 2002.
if you want, call European Motorcycles of Pittsburgh. I know for a FACT they can get any thing and everything for as early as a 94 Monster, and they have the diagrams and everything too. 724-934-4269
Thanks guys for all the tips. It really comes down to me being patient with the dealer having to get parts from Italy. But you guys are right. I can get parts its just sometimes a waiting game...I should have been a bit more specific. And the dealers I have dealt with haver been great so far...no complaints.....comonwealth [clap]
one thing to be aware of. Ducati are really slow at updating their stock levels or parts availability status.
I waited a year for a part they said was on back order only to be told it was discontinued.
This was not down to the dealer. it was Ducati themselves.

especially anything having to do with the motor

02 changed to fuel injection and the updated electronics, frame, etc...so it is quite a bit different
your 98 has the big alternator too, so its the same 'lectrics as the '00.
I use the 00 750 diagrams all the time for my 99 900 - many of the parts are the same, except for 900 engine parts.
I use the '00 to find parts for my '97.
I've waited months for parts from Italy that remained on backorder. I have better luck on ebay than the dealer.

There are some internal gotchas to watch out for - I got caught by the sprag clutches being different on my '99 to the '00 part number, but fortunately you can build a "good" '99 sprag clutch out of bits from a new '00 one and the bits from the old '99 one that don't wear out...
I think the problem with the spares books is that Ducati only started publishing them as PDFs in 2000, for earlier models you need the Ducati dealer software package (or the dead tree parts books).
