I haven't been following the recent announcements re the new 796. Instead of doing the research myself ( ;D), can someone give me a one-line description to update the Monster Generations FAQ? Thanks.

796 -- half trellis frame, SSS, dry clutch, radial calipers, 803cc air cooled engine, dual-sided high mount exhaust.
Basically it's a 696 with a bigger motor that weighs 4lbs more with a single-sided swingarm, 1.2" higher seat height, 7 more HP, 8 more lb-ft of torque, and better wheels.

^ This just took puns to a whole new level.
I thought ducati was going to whittle down their offer? Seems they have more choices than ever (except sport touring)
mitt
I'm convinced they have no idea what they're doing lately... [roll]
Just had a thought... give the 696 a power decrease! Then the 796 will have a home!!!!! bwahahaha

They read the forum.
They now know what to do.
You have doomed us all.
Thank you for your support.
M1100 rolling chassis with 803cc engine, wet clutch and fewer suspension adjustments.
Oh, and optional anti-lock brakes.
how about
100cc's short of being the middle-weight option
dont buy it.
how about another home run for under $10,000!

Wow, times change. Remembering when a 550 or 650 was a great size for a middleweight...
That original gpz550 still gives me a tingle in the nether regions..
While the entire bike weighs more, the motor itself weighs less and makes more power - both peak and across the range.
So, post #2 or thereabouts nails it best:
SSS, 803cc "796" motor, wet clutch, half-cast trellis frame, removable tank panels, moderate seat height, radial brakes, nonadjustable forks, optional ABS, etc.
For all its worth....just rode a 796 Hypermotard...sweet ride. ;D
Thanks, gang. That should do it.
[thumbsup]
How about, just as ugly as the first two.
How about +1
a waste of showroom space if you ask me. Ducati is looking like GM. Too many models with no real advantage. Much like saying, to me anyway, that I'll buy the half Tard rather than upgrade another $2K for the full Tard. I don't see their point other than the single-sided swing arm. Oh, and why doesn't Ducati have a red frame option on every bike?

I had one of the first GPZ550s in town when they came out in 1982 with the Uni-Trak rear suspension. Cool little bike, 4 into 1 Moriwaki pipe, other goodies... wish I still had it. [thumbsup] Good old days!! [moto]
