So I don't know if they cuts parts out or not. nope, they didn't BTW, do you know who Dave Williams is? How does he get all these people to talk to him for as long and as regularly as they do? afaik, he's just OTT-dave. there must be some other history there, but a while back i made a comment to him @ mladin's treatment of nicky hayden in 2002 and he replied something like "i wasn't paying attention back then". so he's not old school racing guy. OTT has been around for several years. somewhat in 2007, but esp in 2008/2009 he really came into his own by covering the AMA when basically no one else was. LOTS of goodwill from the paddock. how that translated to greene & martin i don't know. unless it's as simple as he hooked up with them @ miller 3 years ago. 1 hotel bar drinkathon would have done the trick, i'm sure. Title: Re: WSBK Rd 5 -- Monza, Italy (Spoilers) Post by: derby on May 07, 2010, 11:52:34 AM how that translated to greene & martin i don't know. unless it's as simple as he hooked up with them @ miller 3 years ago. 1 hotel bar drinkathon would have done the trick, i'm sure. the ott/worldsbk hookup happened last year... prior to that mainly followed wera racers/racing with some minor ama paddock stuff with those racers. a few seasons ago, they started doing the ama post-race interviews and it kinda grew from there. they got a LOT of visibility when the ama was doing week-delayed race broadcasts and ott was the only source for same-day coverage. i may be wrong, but i think dave (williams) has/had another job with one of the ama teams. Title: Re: WSBK Rd 5 -- Monza, Italy (Spoilers) Post by: Spidey on May 08, 2010, 08:26:30 AM In the OTT interview, the WSBK announcers said that RLH would be in the top ten if he was on the Yamaha. And that the best Rossi could do on the Pedercini bike would have been 10th. Ouch. Granted, they were drunk and it was 2 in the morning, but they seemed to have faith his abilities and none in the performance of his bike. I hope he stays in WSBK and has a decent ride next year.
Interestingly, this year it seems like more and more teams are using both of their qualifiers to get into Superpole 1 rather than saving them. Man, Race 2 was a mess. I was soooo rooting for JT and he got just obliterated. Report is a mild concussion. I was also rooting for Cal and he went splat. I'm glad that crash looked gentle. Between last year and this year, Monza's a bit of feast or famine for those factory Yammies, eh? I love how in the post-race interviews Haslam was pretending it was his wrist that took the brunt of that near highside, when we all know he's singing a coupla octaves higher. Yay! RLH got in the points, even if only by attrition. [thumbsup] I really want others to catch up in the points. Haslam and Biaggi are starting to gap the others in the championship. Like handguards? Iff the top of my head, it seems like that'd lead do more hand injuries as people's hand get trapped when they crash. It would be pretty hard to hold the bars as one would like too. [laugh] Skeptics may suspect a problem from race 1 that didn't get or couldn't be fixed: Cal Crutchlow: “I felt like I put together a solid race, but we never got the best of starts again, the bike is hard to get off the line, but all credit to Yamaha, we came to their home round and second and third for me and James is a strong result. We knew we would struggle a bit for speed, but to be honest I struggled throughout with gear shifting, I had a leaky engine oil cover. I was struggling to change gear up the box, but I feel I rode well.” Title: Re: WSBK Rd 5 -- Monza, Italy (Spoilers) Post by: Spidey on May 10, 2010, 08:40:50 AM Tons of pictures from Monza: http://www.rideontwo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2681&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 (http://www.rideontwo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2681&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)
