Title: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: He Man on May 09, 2010, 10:34:48 AM I waited a whole month for this thing. That stupid Volcano delayed it forever and when Bellissimoto finnaly got it, i received it 3 days later, bam! I installed it, and rode around with for about 100 miles this week.
Initial thoughts The little adjustment button is too small and hurts if you try to adjust it since it gives mucho resistance. Your suppose to start it off at level 1 and work your way up as you break it in and i stopped at about 6 clicks. The install was simple, the hardest part was finding my bar risers since i ditched them a week after i got the bike. The stock pictures of the steering damper shows it without the little 15mm risers. It looks SWEET this way, but youll be smashing your damper into the tank, so you have to install the spacers...which absolutely sucks cause this thing, in my opinion sticks out like a sore thumb. This may be because i have clip ons and my guages lowered, so the only thing thats higher then my tank is the damper. How does it work? I don't know how to say this, im not happy, im make the beast with two backsing ECSTATIC! With this dialed in at 1, you notice the difference. Whenever i ride and im taking a turn where the ground has ripples in it, my bar likes to give a lot of feedback and i always feel like im going to end up in a tank slapper. Whenever i run over a pothole my bars yank a little bit then straighten out. I have for the most part gotten used to it. If you just stay on the throttle the bars will tweak a bit without really causing much fuss. With the damper on, i dont get any of that annoying feedback from pot hole after pothole, and from the various 1/4 mile roads with ripples that make the bars go side to side. This is my first steering damper so i have nothing to compare it to but Im adding this to the list of performance mods you should do to your bike along with suspension. It really cleans up the BS you get from the roads. More pics to come later as my bike looks like balls asshole. The triple was spray painted and a huge chunk of paint came of when my bike went into the side of a dirtmound, and my risers arent painted either :p Also picked up woodcraft clutch cover with double thick sliders, installed a DDM Hid kit with dual headlights (http://kuixihe.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=574&g2_serialNumber=2) (http://kuixihe.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=577&g2_serialNumber=1) (http://kuixihe.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=580&g2_serialNumber=1) I originally wanted a red one (gold wasnt available when i chekced out with Bellissimoto), but i ended up with anthracite for 1 reason... i didnt want the bling to stick out, so someone looks at my bike and decides hey, let me kick the bike. I think its pretty mellow looking. I give this thing 10 thumbs up (i stole the other 8 thumbs from the morgue) Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: Plumbers Crack on May 09, 2010, 05:11:59 PM Hi.. Im looking at getting one of these.. But I have clip ons and was worried about the top triple..
So do you have the stock triple on? Can you please take a picture of your top triple.. Thanks a ton.. M Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: erichan8757 on May 09, 2010, 05:18:40 PM dont have any idea how it works, just want to drop in some useless mocks!
well technically, your mirrors are higher than your tank then the damper.. !!! heee and it does look so odd standing out like that. but I bet you were happy like a 5 year old getting a lollipop when the damper arrived. the clutch cover looks sweet. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: He Man on May 09, 2010, 05:46:29 PM Hi.. Im looking at getting one of these.. But I have clip ons and was worried about the top triple.. So do you have the stock triple on? Can you please take a picture of your top triple.. Thanks a ton.. M yea i have the stock triple... is there some particular you are looking for? it just mounts to the risers. if you dont have WHat does the clip ons have to do with the top triple unless you have speedymoto ones. for the life of me i cant figure out why they want to charge you an extra $140 just to tap 4 holes and give u some risers. ( i dont know why they cant sell version with just the holes). Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: BellissiMoto on May 10, 2010, 02:42:15 PM Awesome, Glad you love the parts, and I think the bike looks great.
In fact, if you don't mind, I'll throw those pics up on the website. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: muskrat on May 17, 2010, 05:15:57 PM got mine today but I'm traveling tomorrow as well so Wednesday will be the day I install it. Because I'm an idiot at installing shit, can someone here post instructions or send me a PM with them?
can't wait. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: He Man on May 17, 2010, 05:52:32 PM they are posted up on bellissimotos website and it comes with instructions, you cant make the beast with two backs it up.
Im starting to not like top mount so much because it really gets in the way of trying to pull your key out of your bike. i got 3 keys on my chain that contact my bike, and theres not a lot of room to try and wiggle the keys that get stuck betwen the tank and cap. oh well. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: muskrat on May 17, 2010, 06:34:09 PM You only need one key, the rest you can put in your pocket :-\
Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: He Man on May 17, 2010, 07:14:42 PM You only need one key, the rest you can put in your pocket :-\ i was afraid someone would point out the obvious...i have 3 keys on it for a reason, i dont just put them there for the sake of putting them there. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: muskrat on May 18, 2010, 01:28:22 AM It's the best I could do [beer]

What a difference, best money spent so far. it looked really killer in person, too... i would love to have one (especially seeing what crappy roads we have here in dallas), but i don't see it happening for a while. Why not? If money is an issue and your short a few bucks I'm sure we can help you out. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: Stinson on July 06, 2010, 10:24:14 AM Could this damper be installed while having handle bar risers installed? It appears that the damper is attached to the ingnition cover and I'm worried that the risers may make this application void. Would I have to get a cutom bracket made? Thanks.

It appears that the damper is attached to the ingnition cover and I'm worried that the risers may make this application void. Would I have to get a cutom bracket made? Thanks. It's hard for me to say exactly whats necessary without seeing your bike and being able to play around with it all first hand, but one of our customers who has risers simply flipped the bracket that goes from the top of the handlebar mount upside down and it works perfectly. Whether your solution will be that easy, or require a little more modification I can't say for sure. Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: desmoworks on July 16, 2010, 07:52:11 AM To use these dampers with riser setups you need new spacers and mounting bolts to the ignition housing that are longer by the same amount of the new riser. This way all the mounting points, heights, etc... remain the same and it is still a direct bolt on. We've had several people do this who have risers or triples such as what SpeedyMoto offers.
Title: Re: Bitubo Steering Damper Post by: BellissiMoto on July 20, 2010, 08:18:37 PM This is the Bitubo Damper mounted on the Hypermotard EVO SP.
The EVO SP comes with bar risers, but to make it work with the Bitubo damper, you only have to flip the top mounting bracket upside down as shown: (http://bellissimoto.com/images/Picture_010.jpg) for reference, here is the Bitubo damper kit mounted to a standard Hyper (http://bellissimoto.com/images/Sterzo_Hypermotard.JPG) |
