Title: Dangerous Roads Post by: ROBsS4R on May 06, 2008, 01:42:46 PM This is the Place Holder for Dangerous roads Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on May 06, 2008, 01:51:27 PM Dangerous AKA Best DAMN Road in the East Bay: Morgan Territory
It's kind of like this... Lets take Mines road, remove the asphalt, make the road tighter, put tons more housse and lots of car traffic... If that's what you're into then this road is perfect. I'm still looking for the guy on BARF who recommended this road so I can kick him so hard in the nuts he's probably going to have to change genders. What's really great is they put up the signs that say "8 miles" and you think oh nice only 8 miles then we're out of this then you get to 8 mile point and there's another sign that says "13 Miles" then you go ANOTHER 13 miles and you get to a sign that says "8 miles" the road just likes to piss people off... Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: ROBsS4R on May 06, 2008, 02:01:46 PM Can someone sticky it near the top ;D I have a nice Pothole one I will add later when I have time. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: ROBsS4R on May 06, 2008, 06:03:12 PM Coming off of 680 heading towards 880 in Fremont
The intersection of Warm Springs and Mission Blvd there is a HUGE Pothole.... Beware. It is located on the Red Square on the map. "No services for 47 miles" (not a pleasant sign when riding a s4rs) 10+ miles of single lane, bumpy ass, blind cornered, potholed filled, gravel strewn, not been paved in 40+ years stretch of road that turns into to 25 miles of heaven! 30 MPH??!! WTF???!!! Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on May 07, 2008, 01:07:08 PM Skagg's Road, coming in from 1 I was going to say Dangerous to your insurance premiums :D"No services for 47 miles" (not a pleasant sign when riding a s4rs) 10+ miles of single lane, bumpy ass, blind cornered, potholed filled, gravel strewn, not been paved in 40+ years stretch of road that turns into to 25 miles of heaven! 30 MPH??!! Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on May 25, 2008, 04:43:03 PM Mines Road: A bit dirtier then normal this time of year, no water crossings, but the asphalt was smooth
San Antonio Valley Road: The road is basura, not as much dirt but the asphalt has lots of sink holes. I was very glad I had my steering damper as I got a pretty intense what I would call a tank slapper just as I was coming out of turn. Mt Hamilton: Dirt, dirt everywhere. Every corner covered in gravel and sand. Kincaid: Smooth fresh clean pavement. Although there was some gravel in some turns. I'd also recommend to turn around when the lane goes from two to one. The single lane is VERY narrow and I almost became very up close and personal with a Chevy pickup truck. We were both as far right as we could go and there was barely room, bad luck that we met in a turn. Calaveras: Clean hassle free Palomares: Coming from 84 the first or second turn was covered in dirt, after that clean all the way to Castro Valley Redwood: Clean, although the pavement has been a bit bumpy. Skyline: Clean, even the pine needles were gone. Grizzly Peak: Clean most of the way. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: somegirl on May 28, 2008, 06:35:16 PM Hwy 1 North, just north of the 84 junction.
There is a quick right-long left with signs for reduced speed (one of the few corners on 1 with such signs). Mid-apex on the right hand turn, there is a substantial bump across most of the northbound lane. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: hypurone on May 29, 2008, 05:22:39 AM Skagg's Road, coming in from 1 "No services for 47 miles" (not a pleasant sign when riding a s4rs) Not sure what you mean here, you must be referring to fuel? I got no probs on my RS out there. [moto] 10+ miles of single lane, bumpy ass, blind cornered, potholed filled, gravel strewn, not been paved in 40+ years stretch of road that turns into to 25 miles of heaven! WIMP! ;D Serioualy tho, it is a beautiful ride... 30 MPH??!! WTF???!!! NS! It's like Chinese water torture! [bang] Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on June 07, 2008, 08:36:36 PM I just read that they are tearing up Mines road, soon they will be covering it in gravel.
Enjoy. Be Careful. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: Vindingo on June 07, 2008, 09:28:47 PM A lot of dirt and gravel on Pinehurst, mainly on the right handers. Its pretty obvious because they are big patches, but ride safe!
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on July 30, 2008, 07:43:27 AM Just FYI, Mines road has been chip sealed.
So unless you're on a SuMo keep it slow. Got my Oxtar SuMo boots yesterday ($200 off from Cycle Gear!) and my parts are on order almost Husaberg time! :D Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: Popeye the Sailor on July 30, 2008, 07:49:52 AM Got my Oxtar SuMo boots yesterday ($200 off from Cycle Gear!) and my parts are on order almost Husaberg time! :D They white? Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on July 30, 2008, 07:53:10 AM They white? Unfortunately no :( Since they were so cheap I had to take what I could get which was gray and black. If I ever decide to go big bucks on the Sidi or Gaerne SuMo Boots I'll be going white for sure :DTitle: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: duckwrench13 on July 30, 2008, 08:44:10 AM Unfortunately no :( Since they were so cheap I had to take what I could get which was gray and black. If I ever decide to go big bucks on the Sidi or Gaerne SuMo Boots I'll be going white for sure :D What size boot do you wear? I've got a pair of Gaerne SG-10's in black/white, size 44.5/10 that are just collecting dust. I've done a few across town jaunts to break them in, and one 300 mile enduro in them. They're still damn near new...just a little dusty. Since I no longer have the Big Red Pig (99 XR 650R), I don't need 'em. If you want 'em, make me an offer...or maybe a box of rockers? ;D Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on July 30, 2008, 08:51:23 AM What size boot do you wear? I tried to talk him out of it saying how they were already fixed but he wanted it all. I should have just left them at home and he probably wouldn't have remembered. Too bad I already got these boots otherwise I would be all over those. Oh well... I'm sure a few others will convert to SuMo soon enough on the board here and they'll be able to get a good deal. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: duckwrench13 on July 30, 2008, 09:50:11 AM Oh well... no worries.
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: Vindingo on July 30, 2008, 10:14:44 AM reading this made me remember...
Gazosos creek has just been chip sealed too. It is that cut-through from Cloverdale to the coast. The whole thing is gravel Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: hypurone on July 30, 2008, 01:12:20 PM reading this made me remember... Gazosos creek has just been chip sealed too. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: TCK! on July 30, 2008, 01:35:26 PM Don't take any of Vindingo's road suggestions... he'll have you going down roads like Morgan Territory. Which is just lovely if you're never been there...
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: Vindingo on July 30, 2008, 02:36:45 PM Hmmm, never heard of that one. WAS it a good road before the crappy work? I'll have to google it... Its nothing to write home about. It is a backroads alternative to go south from Pescadero. The whole thing is gravel That is why I have never heard ridden it, Vindingo said Cloverdale, nothing else! Being from the North Bay, when I hear Cloverdale, I think the town of Cloverdale! Oh well, still may ride it someday when I'm down that way. And after the chip seal has dissipated... Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: seshboy on July 31, 2008, 07:02:20 AM Norris Canyon just chip sealed.
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: somegirl on October 24, 2008, 06:31:59 AM 101 in San Mateo/Burlingame is always bad, but currently the northbound direction has significant level/surface changes (like ~3 inches difference) between the left 2 lanes. >:(
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: duqette on October 24, 2008, 07:21:29 AM Please be extra extra cautious on 101 both directions in Burlingame / San Mateo. Re-paving, lots of construction, lanes moving around ... all combined with the usual oblivious cagers. It's deadly out there!
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: ROBsS4R on October 24, 2008, 11:42:56 AM Should we sticky the Dangerous Roads Thread? Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: desmoquattro on October 24, 2008, 12:01:15 PM Should we sticky the Dangerous Roads Thread? He didn't know lane splitting ettiquette either. He was going really fast and then braking to almost a stop off an on. I was trying to get his attention since I saw hit plate falling off but he never would let me pass. Poof it hit is tire and flung across the freeway Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: Desmostro on October 24, 2008, 10:14:45 PM Oakland, Berkeley. That is all.
[cheeky] I don't know how you guys live over there. I feel spoiled now with my SF pot holes you could loose a small child in. Shattuck Ave., (north of ASHBY, South bound, left lane) at the stop light, a giant puddle of oil, in a pot hole. The winning combo [thumbsup] Definitely oil, black shiny, a few quarts. I'm so glad I didn't put my foot in that. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: EEL on October 25, 2008, 03:47:25 AM 84 West after approximately 1.25 miles after passing applejacks - During La Ducati Day someone deliberately poured oil around both lanes of the turn. After 7 bikes crashed, cops poured dirt on it. It still shows. Just a warning to all to watch out on this turn. It still might be slippery..
Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: Desmostro on October 25, 2008, 09:06:53 AM Still ?!?
That's west of La Honda correct? 84 West after approximately 1.25 miles after passing applejacks - During La Ducati Day someone deliberately poured oil around both lanes of the turn. Title: Re: Dangerous Roads Post by: DucNrun on October 27, 2008, 03:09:41 PM Mt. Tam has loose gravel. It looks like they're getting ready to chipseal. Forgive me if this is old news--I hit up Tam yesterday ascending from Fairfax-Bolinas Rd and going down towards Panoramic/Hwy 1. Both had loose gravel covering both lanes and for a majority of the lengths.
