Title: LED Turn Signal help!!
Post by: gatorgrizz27 on June 03, 2008, 12:10:13 AM
I have an '01 M600 that had small aftermarket turn signals, which worked fine.  I replaced them with other triple LED turn signals, but when the switch is on either the left or right, both signals light up.  They do not blink at all, and are both on together.  Do I need some kind of resistor to make them work properly, and why would they both light up together?  Thanks alot for any help.

They're not flashing because the LEDs don't put enough load on a thermal flasher to make it flash.  You can add resistors or get an LED specific flasher.  Both sides are lighting up because you are back-feeding through the indicator bulb in the dash.  This is what I did:

I'm encountering a similar problem.

LEDs all around and I've changed out the flasher relay for one from Monsterparts (2-prong flasher). *all four signals blink.
Is the dash light throwing off the circuit maybe?

And if it is, what type/rating/size of diode should I be looking for?
I've read 3W in this thread:

Bike is 2001 M900, (old and new) flasher is a 2-prong jobbie that lives near the ECU under the tank (slightly different than most other monsters it seems).

Thanks ya'll.

*edit it is the dash indicator light. I removed the big plug on the back of the gauge cluster, and Blink, Blink, Blink. Correctly. Still curious about the proper diodes.

I don't recall the rating I used but I don't think it's critical.  There isn't a whole lot of current you're trying to control.

No first hand experience on bikes, but I have played around with this stuff a little, and think I have a handle on how to add resistors to make the flasher see incandescent loads:
