I haven't been around much since I gave up riding a couple of years ago, but wanted to post up for those who know me.
My brother and his wife hit a deer last night near Navajo Lake. They were on the ST2 I sold him a few years back. His wife came through with just a dislocated thumb, but Justin is in a bit worse shape. 3 broken ribs, rash on both knees (1 of which required stitches,) rash on right shoulder, bruised spleen, very small part of 1 lung is collapsed but the doc isn't worried at all, and misc. bumps and bruises. His helmet is totally destroyed and the doctor said without it he'd be an organ donor. He's in quite a bit of pain and they plan on keeping him in the hospital for a couple of days.
All things considered they came out OK. He was wearing a moto jacket and jeans with full-face helmet and gloves. He slid down the pavement on his shoulder and head and his jacket burned through.
He does not ride after dark, but he didn't have a choice last night. They were riding with friends who got a flat tire on their bike late afternoon. By the time they were able to get it fixed it was nearly dark. They were only about 40 miles from home and decided to take their time getting there. The deer had other plans.
I don't know much about the bike yet as I haven't seen it. It really isn't that important, anyway. I'll keep you all posted.

Jeremy,
I am so sorry to hear that. I know how important your family is to you, & how big a part of your life motorcycling has been. We all fear things like this, yet we keep pounding out the miles. Please let him know the group is thinking of them both, & hope they heel quickly.
We miss you down here (Maybe I cursed you by putting your name in a thread yesterday).
Everyone: Wear your make the beast with two backsing helmets...ALWAYS!!!
Don't be a stranger, Count.

I'm glad to hear your brother and his wife are still both (mostly) in one piece. I hope everything heals well and he's able to make a full recovery! The idea of hitting a deer scares the hell out of me when I ride.
Jeremy,
I'm glad they didn't get hurt any worse...always cringe when I hear about somebody going down.
Tell them we are thinking of them and hope they recover fully soon.
Pam & Karl
Thanks all for the well wishes. Kingbaby: No worries brother, don't even think thoughts like that. I miss you guys, too.
My brother was just moved up to ICU because they couldn't keep his oxygen level up. An X-ray revealed that his lung is collapsing further and they have to insert a chest tube.
Jeremy,
Sorry to hear about their mishap.
Thoughts and prayers headed to all of you.
Good to hear from you, even if it's not the best of circumstances.
- Randy
hey jeremy,
im soo sorry to hear that, hope he has a speedy recovery
my thoughts and prayers for him and his wife
Thoughts go that way.. Terrible situation.. Let us know if we can do anything..
+1 on the well-wishes, and if there's anything I can do... Don't hesitate to ask.
Thinking of you and your brother and his wife. Give them our best. Take care of yourself, too. We miss you.
Jeremy wishing your brother and his wife a speedy recovery! [thumbsup] Larry
Thanks again, all!
He's still in ICU but his condition has improved quite a bit. Headed back out to the hospital now; I'll keep you posted.
Will keep them in prayers, wishing them the best!
That's great news. I've spent a large part of my life laying in those damn hospital beds, and any improvement feels like your one step closer to walking out the door. He's blessed to have you there.
Thanks again everyone.
It's been a little give and take lately. He'll improve a bit, then have an issue. He's still sedated and in-tubated, and they're keeping him in ICU for the forseeable future. All we can do is hope and wait.
Wow! Sorry to hear about that. Hope they have a speedy recovery.
Update: No significant change since last time. His lungs are functioning a bit better and things still look decent, but he's still in ICU and their keeping a close eye on him. I'll keep you all posted.
Thank you for the update. Prayers still going out for him and your family.
Jeremy, so sorry to hear this. Keep the chin up! Godspeed on the recovery
Thank you again for all of the well wishes.
They officially diagnosed my brother with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) yesterday. He had a CT scan and they found another pocket of fluid in his chest, which they have already started to drain. There is a little more blood around his spleen but not enough to cause too much concern. The biggest issue right now is his lungs.
He had a pretty good night and they were able to reduce the percentage of oxygen they're giving him this morning. It's a matter of baby steps right now, but he's moving in the right direction. His stay in ICU will be longer than we expected and we don't know when he'll get out. People who have survived ARDS say they can remember some parts of conversation in their presence so we continue to talk to him and keep a positive vibe going. I'll give you all an update when I can.
thats good to hear her is doing better...the time is the hard part and glad that u all are staying positive as well...but let us know if there is anything we can help with [thumbsup]
Thanks, Mousey!
Justin took another small step forward today. They have been able to lower the amount of work the machines are doing, and his body is picking up the slack nicely. We're hopeful that it will continue.
thats good to hear! just always keep us posted [thumbsup]
how is his wife doing?
That is good news, Jeremy. Give him my best. I am pulling for him.
He's making more progress, though it's slow-going. He has a new respiratory therapist who has made quite a few changes, and they seem to be making the difference. Hopefully it continues.
All of your well-wishes are very appreciated!
Progress is good! [thumbsup]
Thanks for the update.
Positive progress continues! The respiratory therapist feels that if Justin continues to do as well as he has, he may be off the respirator by the end of the day. I hope so!
That is good news! Glad to hear it! [thumbsup] I Hope the progress continues and a full recovery is made!
Fantastic! Thanks for the great news!
What they said, Count. :)
Glad to hear the good news!!!
Life is good! Justin had the tube removed and has been breathing on his own. He has been moved out of ICU and into the Step-Down Unit. He's talking a little and is shaking off all of the meds. Things are really looking great!
Awesome news!
[thumbsup]
Wow! Awesome news man... [beer] ;D
great to hear [thumbsup]
Yea! So glad to hear of his progress.
Positive progress continues. They may move him over to the rehab unit on Monday. Since he hasn't moved in 3 weeks he has to recondition his muscles. The big battle appears to be over!
I'm very happy for you and your brother [thumbsup]
WOOO HOOO !!!
wonderful news [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
Sorry it's been a while, but life has been hectic!
Justin is now resting at home! He still has some work to do but it appears he's in the home stretch. The doctors expect a near 100% recovery, but won't know for sure until he can be more active.
I don't think he would mind me saying that his weight added to his difficulty during this. He carries about an extra 40 lbs, and is now committed to working it off. It's a good reminder to stay in shape!
Thanks again to everyone for the well-wishes and prayers!
