Title: Lowering Gauges Please help!!
Post by: rac3r on May 18, 2010, 06:55:44 AM
I recently fitted clip ons to my Monster which has caused all sorts of issues. I'll be lowering my headlight using an extra bracket BUT now the gauges look stupid. How can I lower them without cutting the bracket?

Please help! I haven't ridden in like 3 weeks and I can't stand it any more :-\

you can bolt up from underneath the bracket as opposed to above.  but i'd ask one of the mechanical ninjas on here for a better step by step of the process . ..

More importantly, how are you going to lower your head lights with out cutting (cutting into) your U bracket?  You will have to cut off the headlight brackets and weld them on lower on the U bracket.

If you put your gauges below the triple rather than above (the stock position) you may have to cut the top portion of your U bracket.

I have actually put the clip ons upside down so they rise up. If I turn them the right way up it might clear the brackets meaning I don't have to move the headlights or gauges. I'll try that before I do anything

just buy a spare u bracket and do a search on this

i ended up removing the plastic inserts from the u bracket, cutting 1/2" off each side, reinserting the plastic inserts back into the u bracket, mounted, and it worked great.

rerouting brake / clutch / electrical lines, well that's a different story.

Its a trail tech vapor unit. Really nice, the sensor for the speedo just FALLS into place right onto the real caliper mount, and the bracket to mount the main thing only needs a little tweak to mount right behind the front brake splitter.

I've got one more thing to try today which if it works means the clocks and headlight can stay where they are. I'll let you know how it goes [thumbsup]

hmm....my bad I didnt see this until I just got a PM regarding the trailtech unit (which I STILL highly recommend.)

that gizmo is a voltage monitor mounted in a re-machined bar clamp I got from Jeff @ monsterparts.com. One of the four bolts is a fake and the wires run down thru the tripple there.

It helps me keep a constant eye on any stator/rectifier issues.

what you need is the headlight clamps from CNC Italy at the bottom of THIS page:
http://www.bellissimoto.com/CNCRacingMisc.html (http://www.bellissimoto.com/CNCRacingMisc.html)

You can drop your headlight as far as you want, and have nothing in your way when you go to drop your gauges either.

worked beautifully for me.
