Title: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: uglyducky on May 18, 2010, 07:31:54 AM what do you guys recommend that won't make me have to sell my car to afford it?? lookin at CNC, Oberon, and EVR as they have the 30mm slaves for civilized prices but i'd like to know from the guys who actually understand all this stuff.
Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: redial on May 18, 2010, 08:17:31 AM im no ducati tech, but LT Snyder is a pretty smart dude. He
wrote a book on ducati maintenance that is incredibly useful. He also sells parts that he uses on a website www.desmotimes.com (http://) here is what he has to say about clutch slaves. he sells evoluzione for 175 NOTE: I only stock the 28.5mm piston size. The 30.5mm size requires too much lever travel and neutral and shifting are compromised. Stay away from the big-bore aftermarket slaves. so you can believe him or not, it made me shy away from 30 bores and i am still running stock Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: Markus on May 18, 2010, 08:25:15 AM I have an Evoluzione slave on my 2000 M900S. Approximately 14,000 trouble-free miles. Clutch pull is noticeably less firm, though definitely not wet-clutch soft. I have no experience with the competitors but can recommend the Evoluzione clutch slave. It's been a nice addition.
Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: He Man on May 18, 2010, 08:27:31 AM im going to go out on a limb and say that you dont always get that 30% reduction in clutch pull.
and if it aint broke why fix? I would buy which ever one is in ur budget. they all seem to be high quality parts ,and the deisgn isnt that far apart for all 3 companies. For the record i had a Yoyodyne in my previous monster, had no problems with it. and i have a stock one. I do have a evo unit on the shelf when i get around to installing it. Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: Speeddog on May 18, 2010, 09:29:28 AM I've had a Yoyodyne on my bike for ~7 years and 30k miles.
Works perfectly, never had to touch it since install. Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: DesmoDiva on May 18, 2010, 01:38:59 PM Just installed an Oberon Slave from MotoWheels.
It was $129. It is a 29mm. Lever pull is reduced from stock, but no where near as light as the wet clutch on my 695. Photo coming soon. Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: uglyducky on May 18, 2010, 03:17:41 PM Just installed an Oberon Slave from MotoWheels. wow. that's a great price. love to see some pics. It was $129. It is a 29mm. Lever pull is reduced from stock, but no where near as light as the wet clutch on my 695. Photo coming soon. Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: Ducatl on May 26, 2010, 08:17:09 AM I have a Yoyodyne as well.
+1 to what He man said, I never really noticed much difference in pull... It does look quite nice though ;) Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: BellissiMoto on May 26, 2010, 09:37:24 AM I've had the EVR 30mm on my 1098 for the past 13,250 miles without a single problem, and I recently installed the Blue Oberon on my Multistrada which has worked very well in conjunction with the DucaBike slipper clutch for the past 700 miles (I've only had it a few weeks now).

Post by: moto on May 26, 2010, 12:15:59 PM We've been using, installing and selling slave cylinders for over 11 years. We've tried alot of them. The OBERON Clutch Slave Cylinder (http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myProducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=1652%7CMonster%20Clutch&productID=6677&showDetail=1&categoryID=1680|Monster%20Clutch%20Slave%20Cylinders&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=168%7CEuropean%20Motorcycle%20Parts) is our current favorite. They are fairly simple to install, reliable, have an easier clutch pull and are easy to find neutral. The finish is very good. The price at $129 is very reasonable. Post by: uglyducky on May 26, 2010, 05:35:43 PM desmodiva - that is a sexy lookin slave there. i actually acquired a brand new unopened yoyodyne "overthruster" slave from a member of the "other" site for $100 shipped. couldn't turn that down. i'll throw up some pics when i get em and thanks for the input . ..
Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: golgofett on May 30, 2010, 09:06:02 PM How hard of an install is this. Do you have to bleed the clutch (I have no experience with this) or drain and replace fluid?

Do you have to bleed the clutch (I have no experience with this) or drain and replace fluid? 3 bolts, yes, you will need to bleed, you should be flushing the fluid every year anyway. Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: krista on June 01, 2010, 11:53:47 PM I made an install brief for the Yoyodyne (http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/yoyo_clutch_install.pdf) clutch slave cylinders we sell that will help outline the steps needed for the change. We've been selling the Yoyodyne clutch slave cylinders for over 10 years and they've been the most reliable aftermarket one available. I had one on my 1996 916 for 30,000 miles. Still on it now, years after I sold it.
Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: sfarchie on June 02, 2010, 11:38:49 PM I went balls out and bought the NCR slave cylinder http://www.desmoworks.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=401_418&products_id=501&zenid=1a18cdd2abef2769865ffae77c7d1df7 (http://www.desmoworks.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=401_418&products_id=501&zenid=1a18cdd2abef2769865ffae77c7d1df7) and I can honestly say there is a diff. My friend and I both have Streetfighters. He has the Oberon slave and I have the NCR...fairly substantial difference, but so is the cost.

You're not helping! :'( I take it by difference you mean the lever pull is much lighter? Did it improve finding neutral (I currently have some issues with neutral even after bleeding). Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: He Man on June 05, 2010, 02:32:09 PM why is it $300? the brand? or is there something special about it?
Title: Re: aftermarket clutch slaves, thoughts? Post by: uglyducky on June 05, 2010, 04:13:37 PM it's a 32 mm which is (i think) the biggest i've ever seen. seems like the pull would get a bit mushy though. it's $330 cuz some italians carved it out of fresh aluminum by hand with a wooden spoon.
