so i got pulled over this afternoon for crossing the solid white line too soon as i merged onto the H1 from the h2 i know my bad. so i got a ticket but the cop didnt ask me to sign it, so  i didnt... anyone know if that is grounds for being thrown out if i decide to fight it? not sure how things work here in hawaii.

They let cops get a way with a bunch of stuff...but I would still fight it.  I got out of a pretty serious ticket because the police officer failed to show up to court...

what happens if you fight it and loose? do you have to pay extra? like court cost or some shit?

yeah you'd have to pay court costs...you can also write a response letter but I haven't heard about anyone winning that way at the most the fine is reduced

I was travelling home from Waimanalo on H3 a few years back, late at night.   It was one of my first times ever on the road.  I was travelling behind 3 other cars, all going 60.  We came around the bend toward the H1 merge and I got nailed for speeding.  When the cop came up to my car, my papers were already in my hand.  He took them and disappeared - not a word was spoken.  When he returned, he finally spoke:  "I got you 60 in a 45 yeah?"  Huh?  first, when did it turn to 45?  Second, is that really how police deal with citizens in Hawaii?  Anyhoo, got my ticket, drove home.  I went out the next day to scope out the area, saw that it does, in fact, go to 45.  Realized that he was clearly siting at the 45 mph sign looking to nab somebody, etc.  I wrote the situation out and sent it in with my "guilty with extenuating circumstances" claim - it was dropped entirely.

That said, you probably need a pretty good reason to claim not guilty/extenuating circumsatnces/etc.

If you decide to take it to court, you don't pay court costs IF you win the case...but if you lose than you have to pay you ticket and court costs. 
If you write the letter you don't have to pay court costs whether you win or lose but you lose your right to appeal (if I recall correctly).

first. do you have anything to loose to fight other than time.  you always pay court fees even if you don't go to court.  don't think not signing will get you out of it.  even if your in the wrong never admit to being guilty.  The ticket can't be that expensive, just don't want the points I'm guessing. motorcycle cop get you while he was traveling down the emergency lane?  cool info at national motorist association.  I've had a ticket in the system for about a year now for the state not in compliance with federal law.  make sure the ticket violation really is a violation and read what the violation is.  got out of a ticket on fort weaver road for passing on the right shoulder, cop wrote ticket for passing in a no passing zone. law says violation is passing on the left and told the judge I wasn't passing on the left I was passing on the right and I didn't violate the law which im being charged.  DISMISSED...... Do your home work
