Same here, I've briefly met famous people and maybe spoke a sentence or two with them but nothing like a real conversation.
Here has been as real as virtual can get and so far has translated well into real life encounters.
I think I'll leave the celebrity encounters for others. [thumbsup]
I talk with myself all the time.
Only 1,
Jim Belushi. He had attempted to have a bunch of fun at my expense while waiting for a flight from LAX to Chicago. He was incognito in a satin windbreaker, goofy tourist hat and some Elvis like shades, must have assumed I didn't recognize him. Later, in Chicago, fate righted the balance in life. He started chatting up some cute early 20's blonde female, telling her he was gonna be playing at the House of Blues that night. She smiled, and excitedly said, "I know you, you were in Animal House!"
To which he replied, "no, that was my brother John"......... end of conversation.
I got a couple...
Jay Leno. Met him once @ the Rock Store (SoCal biker hang-out) and showed him my blue/white CR Monster. His reply, 'Nice!'... Met him a 2nd time and his quote was, 'Aren't you the guy with that Monster?' ;D
Queen Latifa. She tried to get me to install some accessory on her Hummer H2 for free. [roll] Uh....no.
Johnny Bench
"Boobie" Clark
Chad Johnson
Tom Kelly - music writer
Lt. Col. Greg Thomas - Thunderbird #1
Clint Eastwood
Gerald Ford
Gerald Ford's secret service guy

Bill Engvall
Marty Stuart
Julius Peppers
Lynn Swann
Eric Montross
Grant Hill
Dale Earnhardt
eta: Oh, and Dean Smith. Not sure who should be knocked off the list to add Dean though.
Ronald Reagan (I was 9 and my dad was being checked over by the secret service)
Colin Edwards
Kevin Schwantz
Kel Carruthers
Chris Carter
Ed Hume
Scott Conner
Ciscoe Morris

I can only think of these four fine folks. None of them are really famous but they have all written gardening books and are friends of mine.I have known these folks for years and they ask me gardening questions when they are not sure about stuff...........maybe my answers find their way into print?
Anyway, these people are good folks, honest, caring, compassionate and kind. They are gardeners and more importantly my friends.
In no particular order as most are with celebs/athletes/politician

zero dollars.
I met her at the inaugural US Grand Prix in Indianapolis back in 2000.
I've slightly detailed my connections in the auto racing world and long story short, my bestfriend's Mom introduced me to her in their Suite. She is pretty cool and would never know she was a royal except for the two big mothermake the beast with two backser's standing behind her.
How about some motorcycle related people first:
- Ezra Lusk
- Doug Henry
- Jeremy McGrath's old crew chief when he was with Suzuki (helped him wash Jeremy's bike at a race once)
And others:
- Alton Brown (My fav TV personality)
- John McKean
Just a few....my first two come from working at In-N-Out Burger in the early/mid 80s...
1. David Lee Roth, countless times. It was cool that sometimes he'd come in in Diamond Dave full rock star mode...driving his mercedes convertible with a skull on the hood the the top down, through the drive lane, being loud and fun. Other times he would literally come in in sweats and a ballcap with hair in a ponytail, would walk up and wait like everyone else, sit with them at the tables, and sign autographs to anyone who wanted. Stage persona aside, a very cool guy in person. He came into the Pasadena location all the time.
2. Jay Leno, when I worked in Covina. He came in about 9:30 in the morning (we open a bit before 10:30), cruised through the drive through in a Bentley, I believe, and stopped at the window. I opened the window and he began to order, and I said "I'm sorry, Mr. Leno, we aren't open yet (the grills weren't even hot). We'll be open in about 30 minutes." He replied, "does that mean I can't get a burger?" Uh, ...I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't pulling a bigshot thing and took care of it. Funny though.
3. Chubby checker. He was performing at a car show and I was maybe 13. I somehow found my way behind the stage and walked up to him, and asked him the question I'd been dying to ask. Turns out he DID know where the bathroom was. Poor guy. He was very cool though, but I imagine it hurt to have someone not recognize him when he'd been a big star at one time.
4. Ossie Davis. Saw him on a plane, bumped into him in the aisle and told him that I really appreciated his work. He was very gracious and cool.
1. Ted Lindsay - Hockey player that tried to unionize the NHL in the 50s
2. Howard Zinn - Radical leftist historian
3. James Loewen - sociologist and history textbook critic
4. Noam Chomsky - Radical political theorist, linguist at MIT
5. Bill Stevenson - Drummer and songwriter for Descendents/ALL and Black Flag
I actually used to hang out with a fair number of "before they were famous" folks thanks to college.
Chris Barron - Lead singer for the spin doctors.
Brett Ellis - Wrote Less than Zero and American Psycho
Lenny Kravitz - Buddy of mine was his guitarist for a while
Jonathon Lethem - He dropped out my Sophomore year. Seriously funny man.
Peter Dinklage - After my time there, but we ran in the same circles of friends after I graduated.
Justin Theroux - Also after my time, but again same circles of friends.
But famous people I've met and chatting with when they were actually famous (as opposed to before they were...)
1) John Paul Jones (Customer support call on some music software I wrote back in the day)
2) Johnny Cash (AFM practice day. His Ferrari club was having a track day. Nice guy, even let me sit in his car. All black racing suit and Ferrari [evil])
3) Thomas Dolby (Through my involvement in music software)
4) Buckminster Fuller (Lived on the island next door to where by parents have a summer house)
5) Ken Nordine (Again, though my involvement in music software. Got to visit his amazing house / studio in Chicago)
Dan Forsman- Professional Golfer ( when he was on the PGA Tour ) 1992
Cathy Cook- Professional Golfer ( Sister of John Cook- Professional Golfer ) 1992
Bob Richards- Olympic Champion 1967
Gary Player- Professional Golfer ( when he was on the PGA Tour ) 1977
Jim ( Roger ) McGuinn- The Byrds, 1966
Dolph :)
