Whew! I thought they were going to have to raise real money to do it.

( No aspersions cast on those who are raising the money, the state of Texas , or Austin. )

Crap.

I guess Monticello is out.

I guess I shouldn't complain that F1 won't be an hour from my house when Montreal is less than 4 hours away.   [thumbsup]

If this happens, and that's a huge if, I will be absomake the beast with two backsinlutely ecstatic.  I just hope it doesn't end up like Donington.  Then there's the hiring of Hermann Tilke, the guy that's designed most of the new, boring, F1 tracks.

I just hope it doesn't end up like the DC track that was established under contract and after one event, the residents went into a virtual uprising because of the noise during normal hours over the course of the 4 days of the event and didn't bother to think of the revenue opportunities or anything else and the contract had provisioned for....

So could this potentially be another US MotoGP stop?

I lived in Austin for 10 years, I doubt the residents will have an issue with the noise.  The land that's been purchased is out East of Austin near the airport.  Also Austin is known for having loud multi-day events (SXSW & ACL) going on throughout the year.

possibly... without seeing the plans for the track (with planned barriers/run-off areas*), all we know is that it's going to be a really big, really nice track, with world-class accommodations.

i doubt we'd see a third stop, but it could potentially replace laguna or indy.

*"bike appropriate"

I thought the same thing. Is he going to shape it like a cowboy hat or something with not passing zones? That would be par for the course.

I figured it would be a boot.  Either way, his hiring makes me sad.

I'm pretty sure laps times would be about 30min long on that track.   [laugh]

Heck a boot wouldn't even be a terrible idea. Monza is kind of shaped like a boot!

Then they should bring back traction control.
