I've a '00 M750D that's begun to NOT let me start it in neutral with the stand down. Far as I know the guy who owned it before me never bypassed anything...it only had 158 miles on it when I bought it. So how do I get my joy back?
An investigation of the kickstand switch is the likely place to start
I had a similar problem on my '06... turned out to be the sensor at the clutch lever.
Now you have 2 good things to investigate.
Does it start with the sidestand up?
yeah, with the stand up it will start, but will die as soon as i unfold the stand.
You've apparently been the victim of a malfunctioning kickstand switch.
It has repaired itself, so BigBrother can look out for you once again.
same thing happened to me in reverse. I hope it never fixes itself.

damndist thang, I swear :'(
I thought the 00's wouldn't start at all with the stand down. I'm pretty sure mine didn't, but I've had the switch bypassed for 9 years. Of course, the amont of times I've pegged it by forgetting to put the stand up...
My 2000 M750 will NOT start with the kick-stand down and everything is stock.

Your bike has a reverse? ;D
Well, it unrepaired itself yesterday evening and then re-repaired itself this morning and then at lunch it just refused to even turnover til I put it in gear w/clutch in. [bang]
Hmmmm, possibly it's your neutral indicator switch/connector/wiring that's responsible....

It's weird, ten minutes later after picking up lunch, it started fine with the stand down. Same deal when I came home from work.
Are you talking about the switch at the back of the crankcase? If so, according to the idiot light, I've been in neutral about 7 years and 25,000 miles.
Hmm, gonna have to think about the 'logic' circuitry a bit.
