Have been riding my '06 S2R1000 for about a year / ~3,000 miles. Everytime i have the opportunity to nail it WOT in 2nd or 3rd gear it still makes me laugh out loud in my helmet.
Not looking for scientific answers - just curious how fast a Monster is relative to other Ducati's, sport bikes, cars etc. I ride a Multistrada with more HP (i think) ocassionally, but it does not feel as fast.
In the car world i live in we have always measured 60mph to 90 mph times to compare - a 3 second 60 to 90 car is pretty damn fast.
Anyone have any numbers on 0-60, 0-100, anecdotal stories about smoking a fat dude on a Vespa, etc.
Just curious if anyone is bored today?

That's in M mode. If yo switch to K mode, you can go 224!
Oh yes, K mode. But that can only be accessed by installing the DP powerband.

Wait, the rubber one?
No no... the potere banda nera version.
I thought you had to move the throttle and brake lever to the left handle grip for the bike to go any faster than 140?
I mean hell, I know I need that.
My left arm is so weak I have clutch issues, so I really want to move the clutch lever to the right along with the throttle control.
Just a straight swap.
I need help on this!
JuDDDDddddddd
You guys are funny. [laugh]

"sprinting from 0-60 mph in a credible 3.4 seconds-one tick ahead of that marital aid in the Lamborghini Diablo"
That brought a smile to my face.
My dad rides an 97 S2R1k and I ride an 09 696.. He will be angry to see these numbers
S2r1k - 11.42-second, 116.17-mph quarter-mile
696 - 11.23 sec. @ 111.0 mph
Slower top speed but it's the run time that counts!
It's fast enough to get you a speeding ticket.

No one is tazering me when I'm pulling away at 140+. :)
I've hit the rev limiter numerous times in 6th gear. With a 14 tooth front sprocket, its just over 220km/h.

Late May, cloudy skies. A group ride across Deal's Gap & Cherohala Skyway. My wife (then girlfriend) were riding 2-up. Chasing our pack of sportbike riders through the mountains, we were struggling to keep up with all but the BMW 1200GS. We found a passing zone, probably the only one on the Cherohala. We were stuck behind a not-so-fast moving Harley Sportster. I flicked my lights & swung into the deserted other lane planning to quietly around the Sportster and hopefully catch our group. Then it happened... The Harley gunned the throttle hard. I reached down and grabbed my wife's hand, our pre-determined signal for "hold on." We tucked in tight on the Monster and with a flash of yellow and a roar only the combination of Desmo and Termignoni could provide, we pulled away with alarming velocity from that Sportster. I rolled off the throttle with the Harley's headlight a quivering spec in my Desmo-shaken mirrors. I settled into a nice smooth rhythm to catch the rest of my group. I was grinning, and if my little M750 could grin, it would have been grinning too...

There is no way unless the laws of physics are broken a 696 is faster than a 1000cc monster if the same skilled rider is doing the runs. I call BS on the tests.

while riding my GFs 696 a butch biker chick on a chromed out HD 883 pulled up next to me at a traffic light and gunned it hard when the light turned green, i was all like WTF... hell no! so at the next light i pulled next to her and asked if she would like to try that again when the light turned green i burned her off the line. @ about 80 mph i backed off the throttle a bit then she came screaming by me. i down shifted pulled up next to her threw her a "shaka" with my right hand and hit the throttle again and watched her disappear in my in my side view mirror ... right behind my elbow

Doesn't mean they are accurate.
Drag racing = power to weight ratio. The 1000cc will win that game I am pretty sure.
did the math, from the reviews posted:
696 67.2hp 409lb
=0.164303178 hp/lb
1000 87.3hp 436lb
=0.200229358 hp/lb a 22% difference ;)

Nobody has yet to answer my question:
If I move the throttle to the left grip and clutch to the right.....
Will I get more speed?
