Title: PC V for Monster 696?
Post by: bicunica on May 27, 2010, 04:54:30 PM
Is it worth getting it and tuning the bike just for street and twisties kind of riding?

Unless I'm mistaken it's not available for the 696...

I thought I read somewhere that someone installed one on their M696. Might have been a different site.

yes, it's out.

and really the only reason I see getting it, is if you make modifications beyond what the DP ECU or Stock can handle. ie, new airbox, port and polish, etc.

Hmm, so if you don't currently have the DP ecu and want to tune could it be an option?

yes, that's true. but you don't get the higher RPM limit of the DP ECU.

so you could get a PC V, highflow airfilter and slipons, and get the ability to tune it similar if not better than the DP ECU, minus the raised redline (fuel cutoff, not really a redline i suppose)

Hmm, who sells PC V? If it's a significantly cheaper option than a $1000 dp ecu I might try it.

I picked up a barely-used DP ECU, CF Termis, and filter set for my wife's bike a year ago for a bit more than (OK, double) the price of a Power Commander. Besides including the non-ECU stuff (did I mention CF Termis?), this ECU doesn't need any dyno time to get it dialed in.

The powercommander.com website does list a part number for a unit for the 696, though it does say "under development."

Only you can answer the question of whether it's "worth it." 80HP used to be way more than enough power for a motorcycle. It's way more than I need or can make good use of. Maybe you're regularly running out of oomph already and really need a small increase. If so, it could be worth it.

To be honest, we bought the set because my bike came with it and my wife liked the look and sound. I could not detect any difference in riding her bike before we swapped off her stock parts for the "racing" ones. For us, then, there's no way a PC-V could possibly be worth it.

$309 (from CA Cycleworks-sponsor plug!! can i get a discount now!) + pipes + BMC or K&N airfilter (about 70-90) = total cost

vs

Termi system with DP ECU, pipes, air filter.

I'm buying ryanracers exhaust so termis are out of the question. I have been trying to find a  used dp ecu for months with no luck. For now I'm good with stock but I feel ryans exhaust would really benefit from either a dp ecu or a tune from PC V. If I want to do open airbox/high flow some sort of tune is a must.

I already have the DP ECU and Termis. Was just curios if getting the PC V would make any improvements with the popping on deaccel. and smoothing out the power band. Thanks for the replies.

Spectrum Motorsports has one on their 696.  It helps a tiny bit with the popping and you can't really tune anything below 4,500rpms.

As for me, I kinda like the popping sounds.  ;D

You can't tune below 4500 on any closed loop system. However it's more of a problem on the siemens ECU's

hey ivn,
where did you end up installing it on the bike and what came in the box?

thought i would grab it for IVN.

But notice the RPM. he says it's a stock ECU, so there was a problem with the RPM numbers I think.
