Ever wonder how a semi jumps a concrete divider?
Here's how: http://jalopnik.com/5550345/video-car-hits-pepsi-truck-causes-catastrophic-wreck (http://jalopnik.com/5550345/video-car-hits-pepsi-truck-causes-catastrophic-wreck)
And it turns out it's easier than you think!!
sentra driver was probably texting
Amazing more people weren't hurt, good thing traffic wasn't heavier.
that's our personal track...tons of bikes there, just thankful no one was hit head-on by that truck. I think the person in the car should have his/her license revoked permanently
That's just a typical day here in Dallas. There are tens of thousands of dumb ass drivers pulling that shit here every day. It sucks big time. Every couple of minutes I see a driver doing something dangerous and stupid that makes me want to shotgun his/her tires flat!! >:( Really glad they had that video because it clears the poor truck driver of wrong doing and it will hopefully keep the stupid shit driving the car from sueing the driver and Pepsi! Just glad no one got seriously injured. Hell of a mess though, shut down the Tollway for hours!
couple thoughts
1-how can you do that? I.E. how spaced out do you have to be to completely miss the turn?
2- That Porsche That dodged that truck. I guess Porsche engineering and traction REALLY saved his ass. Cause that bike turned on a dime without losing control.
3- That was pretty easy. lol
Holy crap! That white CUV on the opposite site barely missed death. If that car came thru just a fraction of a second later, that would have been a nasty head-on...
I wouldn't have thought a small car could push a truck that size the way that it did.
Dumbass. [roll]
I will now look at Cayenne drivers with reverence
I will look at sentra drivers...no differently than i do now

it looks like that second hit was right on the wheel and may have steered the struck into the divider, not pushed it.
That's what I'm thinking. My family owns a three generation, 75+ year old trucking company. My brother and I owned it together for years... I don't anymore. When I did I was the company representative that handled all the traffic and cargo claims. Have more court time than most attorneys and worked with many accident reconstruction firms. As I said, glad Pepsi has that video to help them down the road with this one! [thumbsup]

Follow the Cayenne after it misses the truck. He/She over corrects and runs back into the barrier twice, then stops.

i think the cayenne was the silverish vehicle second in line... it doesn't appear to stop at all.

You are correct, once again. I was looking at the black suv that went under the falling trailer. I think? the Cayenne may have hit the outside wall?

if it did, the driver didn't bother stopping (or slowing down)...
Truck drivers worst nightmare.......... as well as every other road user. I am very happy that no one was killed.I drove truck for a lot of years , doubles and triples.

Yea, it's the silver one, i think they may have gotten away without any damage...most importantly look at that reaction time and swerve...impressive.
Wow.
This is actually a nightmare of mine...I've had it many times. The person in the black SUV must have been distracted and missed the whole thing because they just kept going. Looks to me like the Cayenne driver slowed after his/her superhuman feat...probably looking at the disaster in their rear view mirror!
That truck being empty had a lot to do with the outcome.

Bless you! [thumbsup] Lord knows you saw some stupid crap out there on the road. I never stopped being amazed at the BS I see four wheelers doing around trucks. [bang] Tail gating, whipping in front of them and hitting their brakes, you name it. My personal favorite is some damn fool running up the right side of tractor trailer swinging out to make a 90 degree right hand turn and getting squeezed. Worked a hundred of those wrecks! :P People just have no respect for trucks and what they can and can't do. They also don't realize every single thing they have, own, wear or eat came by a truck.
Anyway, glad you got out of the profession in one piece and are here to post up! [clap]

My thought as well.
Before this video I truly believed that the only reason to buy a Cayenne was as a lame attempt impress others. Now I see that it's actually to avoid being inconvenienced by others.
:o
I'm glad no one got killed. As amazing as it was to watch those cars get out of the way, it totally appears many of them just blindly swerved into other lanes to avoid that semi (not going to blame them for that!). I'm just surprised more cars didn't take each other out while trying to get out of the way.

Swerving into a car is better than a sideways semi head on
if it was lewis hamilton i'd criticize but being a reaction by your average driver, i'd have done the same thing.
Wow, that jersey wall totally lost the "Pepsi Challenge" ;)
the biggest risk here is people coming into your lane. you wouldn't believe the idiots that do that [bang]
wife and I took the geezer glider out yesterday and on our way home up the tollway we counted 11 people texting while driving. because I'm so nice I pulled up to each one of them and reminded them, with exhaust note, to drive and loitered next to them blasting my exhaust. [evil]
[laugh] [laugh] Yeah, but did the dumb asses even notice? You're dealing with the same slack jawed, mouth breathing troglodytes as the moron driving the Nissan!
Still impressed with the black SUV that went under the flying 18 wheeler. Bet he had some scrapes on his roof!! And the silver Porsche/VW SUV that swerved right at the last possible second. Had he been 2 seconds further down the road he would have wadded that puppy up into the truck cab assuredly killing the truck driver... wouldn't have done the SUV driver any good either! [bang] Good luck all around. [thumbsup]
Porsche [thumbsup]
Porsche Cayenne [bow_down]
I bet that driver left a spot on the seat. Wow!
Idiot drivers. Boo. [bang]

had to be moved with a crowbar due to clenching
Either way, we know why kind of skidmarks the Cayenne driver has to deal with ~
