Title: Using phone = fail
Post by: hackers2r on May 29, 2010, 03:39:49 AM
So although I haven't seen anyone doing in on Ducs, in the past 2 weeks, I've seen 3 different people talking on the phone WHILE riding.  Guys, please tell anyone you know that this is a BAD idea.  Can't believe anyone would actually attempt this.

That is just stupid.

Wouldn't work for me anyway.  My bike is too loud to hear anyone and I can't even walk and text, much less try to ride and do it.

How the frack does that even work?  Is this in no-helmet-law states?  The wind noise alone should prevent someone from doing this!  Well, that and the crashing and dying thing...

My bike is the one place I refuse to be hooked to my phone. It is my place to get away from the rest of the world!

ive stuck my flip phone in my helmet at a light to call someone and ride 2 blocks down and park it so i dont have to sit and wait for my friends to come downstairs.

i agree the bike is one thing i don't want to be bothered by talking to someone while riding, i have too muich to be aware with the motorcycle itself.

funny thing is that i have tried using bluetooth while riding on a bicycle.  inevitibley the person on the other end hangs up as they no longer want to hear me breathing hard whle riding.  hey i'm riding up a hill i'm going to breathe heavily. lol

No phone while riding or while driving for me.

I keep mine on vibrate in my front pocket. If I feel like it I'll pull over and see who it is, but when I'm riding I don't want to be bothered so.

I passed a cop once while I was riding helmetless, on the phone, with my dog balanced on the gas tank.

He gave me a funny look.   [laugh]

I'd have to deal w, a Bandanna, which holds all my hair under my Helmet and a Helmet Liner on top of that so my Helmet fits so tight that I don't take it off until I'm done w, my ride.

I've got a water bottle w, a bite valve that I keep in my Hip pack and I can actually get it in between my breath guard if I pull down on the front of my Helmet as much as I can w, it on at a stop for a stretch and a quick drink.

No way any talking on the phone while riding.

I'd have to be stopped and take my Helmet off but most places I ride there's very little cell reception.

People never cease to amaze me .

With three kids (all under 5 years old), a full time job, and being a full time student, all I can say to this comments

My bike is the one place I refuse to be hooked to my phone. It is my place to get away from the rest of the world!

is:
Amen

Only stupid people would text or use the phone while riding! Enough said.

I listened on a conference call while riding to the office one morning.....used my mp3 earphones tucked under helmet and placed the phone on mute before leaving home. I knew it was a short ride and I wasn't going to have to talk, BUT I needed to dial in and be marked present for the call

Cagers on cell phones are pretty normal here even with the $125 fine, but...saw a guy tapping away on his phone while riding a scooter. I was behind him going crosstown in Manhattan so besides the normal array of crazy drivers there was this guy weaving along. After he weaved away I shot ahead only for him to catch up at the light. He then shoved his phone into his helmet to continue the call hands-free. Not sure how people like this survive but you can rest assured they take others down with them.

I've tried texting with my gloves on just before riding and it's almost impossible!

doing it WHILE riding for me would be suicide :o
